OK, I got JS going in Reaper, not so hard, but now I find I have no idea how to program drums - is there any hope for me?? Here is what I working on, listen to the drums as they come in at after ~16 bars -

how oh how do I do this in JS. Do I need to bring in a drummer to set this up?
My son came in and told me I have eighth notes on the highhat. |

So I started to read the manual, also watch some videos. At this rate I will get this drum groove into my tune in about a month. Yieeps, no one can jump in an give me a clue. Should I be looking at the Styles or should I be trying to roll my own in the Editor? Maybe I am in the wrong forum place? Or maybe "non-drummers need not apply". OK, I'll be patient, I know my savior is coming... |

This is a simple 6/8 pattern so I'd recommend '6/8 Rock' from the 'Rock' style folder. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

See thats what I needed! I have been working off a 4/4 with backbeat assumption, which as of last night I was about to chuck it all and started to look up drummers phone numbers. So this bit of guidance is appreciated and will give me someting to go back to the bench to work with.
Is that an open hihat on the 8th notes??? |

The style uses closed hats by default. You can use the 'Power Hand' to switch to open hats or ride (reduce 'Min Power' to zero to force this).
Also, make sure your host is set to 6/8. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Boy, wish I had better news to report. While i don't claim to be a drummer, i do have this whole DAW thing worked out pretty good with lots of years experience.
That said, I have locked Reaper working with JS 3.2.0 and frozen the computer more in the past two days then in the past two years.
My initial assumption is that JS is having trouble with Reaper 4.111 (64 bit), at least I hope this is the problem. I am going to switch to the 32 bit version of Reaper 4.111 and see if things improve. |

Well - errors again over with the 32 bit version. Understand, i don't know exactly what I am doing so I push a lot of buttons in JS. Eventually, the buttons just don't work and I have to reboot to get it up and going again.
Don't tell me I am the first to have problems with Reaper 4.111. Just my luck.
Ralph, care to take control of my screen and show me what is going on here?? I can give you remote access via Webex or Teamviewer. That may be above and beyond for tech support - I know, but If you can get me doing this, I will get others and then so on and so on and so on....
I am available from now all weekend. |

Well, I killed JS. It will now not even load into Reaper after a full reboot. I guess I can try a reinstall, but this may be the kiss of death for me and JS. I do have other options for drums and these problem are going on for almost a week now. Kind of stiffles the creative process...
While I do appreciate Ralph's help, the forum is just too quite to get help in a timely manner. Over in Avid or Reaper or PGMusic, I would have half a dozen folks working to get this up and running. Here, little to nothin. I can only assume there are few mentors who really know how this all works. |

Sorry about the late response! Please rescan plugins in REAPER to get Jamstix loading again.
Please send me rzdlog.txt from Documents\Jamstix3 so I can see what's going on and help you. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

I have sent all the rzdlog.txt files in that folder. I gave up on Reaper 4.111 64 and 32 due to all the problems - Loaded Reaper v3.78 32 and it was rock solid for an entire morning of work with JS. Then installed Reaper 4.01 32 and it was again rock solid (JS was almost a joy by this stage as i have my 6/8 tracks starting to take shape).
I plan to try Reaper 4.01 64 next unless you see a fix here for the current Reaper version.
thanks for you help here. |

| I see Reaper has a new version 4.12 (no surprize). I will try the 64 bit version. |
