When an external vsti is invoked - the mapping screen becomes simplified and leaves a single volume slider that is different than the internal kit volume slider. Is it supposed to do anything? When I select a drum sound from the external vsti - I can "audit" the sound and adjust the volume (which affects the volume of the audit)... but when I play Jamstix, the volume of that drum sound that I adjusted is not changed at all.

Thanks

Hi weaverid,
you'll want to use the velocity map for that. Just imagine the horizontal axis to be the velocity of the notes coming out of Jamstix. The vertical axis is the actual velocity sent to the VSTi. By default that's linear, so a note with velocity 65 will be sent as 65 to the VSTi.

Now just draw any curve you want in the map. For instance draw a line from left bottom to top right but end up a third lower than the default. In other words, draw a flatter line. Now velocity 127 will equal only 85 or so being sent to the VSTi, which leads to lower volume.

Of course, you are adjusting velocity, not volume.

Let me know if this helps.

Where is that slider?
Do you mean the audit velocity slider right underneath the audit button?
That one sets the velocity (not volume) at which you hear the sound when pressing the audit button.

Thanks. I get it now. Shouldn't the x-y axis be labelled? I experimented with it earlier - but I guess the cause and effect relationship didn't jump out at me.

I tried the new demo(vs g) ... but I didn't notice too much improvement with the external vst stability. One new symptom is that frequently - when I load a new dll, jamstix doesn't recognize my keyboard ... so I can't easily set up the mapping. This didn't happen all the time, so it wasn't clear to me what I was doing differently.

Plus - what is the preferred sequence/steps to load an external vst - when a mapping file has already been saved? For example, I initiated a vst using the "external" button. Then I tried loading the file where I saved the map file. It seemed like Jamstix tried to load the vst a second time - and froze.

I also noticed that if I did have problems with an external vst - that trying to revert to the internal kit was not possible, or made things worse.

I'm still having fun with it though.

When you want to load a saved mapping, just hit SAVE, don't use the External VSTi switch at all. It will be automatically set during the mapping load.

Sorry about the other issues you experience. We will keep at it.
