|
|
Since this question is popping up over and over, and since I also ran into the same problem as "brand new NS_KIT7 owner", I sat down the last couple of hours and messed with Jamstix2 to get it to run with NS7 loaded into Kontakt2, but not subhosted (DLL wise) - instead I use Cubase's internal routing for that purpose.
If you're in need of a preset for NS_KIT7, but are too lazy (like me) to create one yourself, now's your chance to grab one.
WHERE TO FIND IT:
Jamstix2 Custom Kit Presets for ns_kit7 (rar, ca. 700kb)
Included in the pack are:
- 4 Kit Presets for Jamstix 2.1.4 and up
- 2 Kontakt 2 Presets for ns_kit7 (please copy to the root of ns_kit7, where the're the subfolders HALionPRESETS, kontaktPRESETS and samples)
- 2 mp3 Audio Demos
- 1 Jamstix2 ns_kit7 Routing Information file
- 1 ReadMe file
The presets are at v1.1 at the moment. Unless I feel like that I need to change something, the presets are at it's final state.
HOW TO USE:
Installing is simple. Just extract the files (if you haven't done so already), then put the sub folder NS_KIT7 into the JS2 kits folder, which is usually somewhere around: Jamstix2\data\kits\
Now you can simply access it within Jamstix2 as kit to load. Keep in mind that it shouldn't ask you for a sub host, which is perfectly fine. I didn't use one, it's just that the internal sounds are turned off this way.
The next step is Cubase SX3 based, but I'm sure it should work with most hosts nowadays, too. Simply fire up one instance of Kontakt2 or Halion 3 and load your desired sounds/prepared custom Multi. Then route Cubase's channel strip output to Halion/Kontakt, and Cubase's channelstrip input to Jamstix2, while the MIDI channels itself are put to MIDI CH01. Now if you create your patterns in Jamstix, your corresponding sampler should respond properly.
If you have a busy beat however, please adjust the voices limitation for each module in your sampler to not get a cut-off sounding output.
Please also consult the ReadMe.txt, as it gives detailed information of what's possible and what not with these presets.
FOOTNOTE:
I'm not related to Natural Studios in any kind of way. I'm just a regular customer who wants to benefit from best of both worlds. So I made this preset and offer it for free.
I also send the very same pack to Ralph around half an hour ago. I'm not the man to decide this, but maybe we'll see these presets bundled with one of the next Jamstix2 Updates, too.
Please enjoy.

The next update will output CC4 via MIDI. Currently it only happens if a subhost is loaded. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Looking forward to that.
Didn't crack the architecture from NS_KIT7 yet, so I dunno anyway how to trigger HiHat 25%, 50% and 75%, but I guess this actually relates MIDI CC4 which declares how wide the hihat is open and the which note is playing (if I'm not mistaken, that's F#2 in NS_KIT7). Duh... Guess I have reread the manual again (and I hate reading manuals) - but I like the sound of NS_KIT7, actually prefer it over the Metal Pak (which I find not that great in general, which also renders it a bit expensive for just the drummer brains), only the "pedal" sound is a bit meh.
Anyway... did I do any mistakes with the preset other than having 2 MIDI keys on the same tom channels (if I can remember)? Is that "subhost solution" I'm using at the moment even right? Maybe I'll finish this one after all - but not today, and not before next week either. I mean... hey, it's fully usable so far. ;) |

The only factual error I can see is having to use 'Jam With MIDI' to get MIDI sent to the host. That is not correct as Jamstix 2 always sends MIDI to the host so you can use any jam mode you want.
For the subhosting it is most important to check 'MIDI Out Only' in the mixer to avoid anything being loaded in JS2, which would waste RAM.
That's all I can think of ATM. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Hm... will that be saved with the kit settings?
|
Yes, it will.

Like I said, the "subhost" function was the only one I found to "route" the internal kit of Jamstix to anything what I want to (in this case Kontakt), unless there's a better way to do that.

Yes, selecting 'subhost' will work fine as it is just about having anything other than 'No Sound' assigned to the desired sounds so the sound will be output to MIDI with the corresponding key value. |

Okay, thanks for that.
And it looks like you rather hit the "edit" button than the "quote" one, Ralph. ;)
Back to work for me, keep you updated folks. |

I'm bumping this just to let you know, that I just finished a new preset pack for Jamstix2. It now enables ns_kit7 user to fully(!) use their samples either via a subhost, or via external ways (only that here MIDI CC#4 messages don't work yet).
Just take a look at the edited first post of this thread, please.
One thing to keep in mind though:
The HiHat modules with the bundled Kontakt2 Multi's might not sound at all. If that happens, either "use" MIDI CC#4 shortly to activate them properly, or just use a different Kontakt2 preset without x-fades. Sorry about that.
Please enjoy, feedback is welcome of course. |

Hey Compy Fox,
I hope you're well. I tried to get your NS_KIT7 presets to work in JS3 but they didn't. I was wondering if you've updated the NS_KIT7 presets for JS3 for yourself. I you have, it would be truly wonderful if you would post them.
Thanks either way,
John_Charles |
