|
|
Hi-
I haven't posted about this before since I can't produce a reliable recipe. I'm running Windows 7 x86 and the latest JS beta (4), and I have the same problem in all three of my hosts (FL Studio, REAPER, SONAR).
What happens is when I load an existing project with JS or sometimes when I insert it in a project, the host will go non-responsive -- I see the wait wheel, and sometimes the window will go white. Sometimes I'll get a message saying the host has to close, sometimes not, but I have to close it regardless.
Often if I try again right away it loads up, no problem. Today I tried opening a project in REAPER that had just JS and Sytrus, and it wouldn't open after 2 tries, but it might if I reboot. I never know when it'll happen. The faulting module in this case was "ntldll.dll", which I know isn't much help.
Is anyone else having similar problems? And Ralph, what would be most helpful for me to send you? It doesn't matter what JS song is in the project, it often happens with none, or as I said, when I'm just inserting it.
Thanks!

Hi
I often have the same problem on my main machine (pentium 4, 3.2 gHz with 2gb RAM). Iuse Ableton Live v8. Even new projects containing JS3 fail to load ie Live fails to open and freezes. This doesn't seem to be a problem on my laptop (intel Core 2 17500 @ 2.2 G with 2 gb RAM).
As far as I remember it didn't used to happen with the very early versions of JS3. |

Please uncheck 'Load-On-Demand' in the JS3 Options and see if it makes a difference. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

I've changed this setting, and so far so good. I'll post back if it happens again.
Thanks!

"Higher".
I still haven't had the problem again since disabling LoD.

Well, phooey, it happened again. I saved a REAPER project template with just JS3 and LazySnake (a very light VSTi) and when I tried to open it I got a crash (twice). Then I opened REAPER and inserted JS3 and it was fine. After that I tried opening the template again and it also was fine.
Here's the crash I got the first time if it's of any help:
| Code: | Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: reaper.exe
Application Version: 3.9.1.109
Application Timestamp: 4ded011d
Fault Module Name: ntdll.dll
Fault Module Version: 6.1.7600.16695
Fault Module Timestamp: 4cc7ab44
Exception Code: c0000005

"Enable LoD" is unchecked. Should I try changing the Priority setting?
Thanks-

Try UNchecking 'Cache GUI' in JS3 Options and see if it helps. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

I had to use this information,
http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=700795&p=3613805&hilit=hard+drive#p3613805
for some reason earlier this year even with version 3 my hard drive started to be used excessively even when firefox was not running!
causing all sorts of problems. There's no advantage to the options mentioned being enabled if you have anti-spyware and anti-virus installed.
PS
I didn't like version 4 so have gone back to version 3. |

That's interesting. I'm going to try it for a while with Ralph's latest suggestion, then if I get the crash again I'll make those FF changes. I'm not 100% sold on v.4 either, BTW.
Thanks!

Hi XoechZ-
It looks like your issue is readily reproducible; mine is very sporadic. I've also had the same sort of problem with SONAR and FL Studio, which is one reason I don't want to revert to REAPER 3.x. For now, I'm changing just one thing at a time to see if I can pin down the problem, but the testing takes a while since I don't have a reliable recipe.
I have seen the issue where a project crashes upon closing, but for me it's more often upon loading a project with JS, or while trying to insert it.
Thanks-

This is a crach that I usually get when I try to load a project containing JS3 and BFD2. Not always but many times.
Comparing this with Susanīs crash code I think that these ARE similar problems.
