Imported a midi file (dragged from Sonar 8.53) with the Jamstix "Quantize Input" option unchecked.

With the "Silent" drummer selected, the midi pattern is imterpreted correctly by Jamstix 3.

However, when I select any other drummer, some quantizing seems to occur. The kick drum of my particular midi clip seems to be most affected by this, but it is a rather unique syncopated kick drum rhythm.

Anybody run into this?

Solutions?

Yes, I checked it out and here is the deal:

Your MIDI clip is a 16th shuffle. All you have to do is check '16th Shuffle' on the part and move the shuffle slider all the way right. It will then sound just like the original clip.

Hey Ralph -

Just to be clear:

1) Even though the "Silent" drummer appears to do the kick drum correctly, your solution will solve the problem for all of the other drummers?

2) Do you know why the kick drum "feel" was lost by the other drummers (other than the Silent drummer)?

3) I have a number of other MIDI files with "creative" kick drum placement -- how can I figure out if "swing" is the issue, and what exactly I should do about it (for instance, how much to move the swing slider)?

4) Is there anything else aside from a MIDI file's swing that could cause this?

5) Finally -- and I feel really guilty asking this! -- is there any way in the future that Jamstix might be able to deal with this situation automatically?

Anyway, I'll probably skip the season finale of "Dancing with the Stars" so I can check out your recommended solution ASAP!

Thanks, Ralph! As alway, I really appreciate your amazing level of support.

1) Yes
2) Shuffle setting was required for this groove
3) Once you get a feel for what a 16th shuffle sounds like, you will easily recognize it for other MIDI clips
4) A 'crazy' MIDI clip could lead to unusual interpretations by JS. Remember, JS has to fit the MIDI data into its logic, not just simply play it back.
5) This may be possible, will look into it.

Thanks, Ralph! The ability to import a MIDI groove file and use Jamstix to bring it to life is (from my point of view) one of the best features of Jamstix.

And anything you can do to improve this capability will certainly add more frosting to the cake!

Thanks again, Ralph.
