Anyone,
I have a couple of questions about the built in compressor.
I THINK that the settings work as follows...

Threshhold: For a higher threshold, turn the knob right.
Attack: For a LONGER attack, turn the knob right.
Release: For a LONGER release, turn the knob right.

The values for the knobs use a % value rather than a dB value or mSec value. I am having trouble confirming this simply by playing with the settings and listening because, to be honest, I don't hear much change. The only knob that seems to produce a noticable change is the release setting.

There is no "ratio" setting, which I would crank all the way for punch (I am trying to use it on the kick) and then adjust the dry/wet mix to taste. I suspect that the fixed "ratio" value is not quite high enough to produce that much extra punch. It is also possible that since I am starting with a kit that already has a fairly punchy kick, the sample is already processed to an extent that there is not much more punch that can be added. I am using Cubase and if I route the kick to a separate channel and use the Cubase stock compressor on a parallel channel (NY compression), I can get a nice thick punch. I would like to stick to 8 channels in the Jamstix mixer, with "downmix" selected so I only need one output from jamstix but I am having trouble getting enough punch that way. I realize that I could use inline compression on the downmixed channel but then I squash the rest of the drums with the kick. I could also use parallel compression on the entire downmixed channel but then I end up with more presence on the cymbals and hat than I want.

Any ideas?

Sincerely,
Jason L.

I find the in-built compressor a little limited as well.Couple of things to mess with.Try the velocity curve in the Bar editor on the kick.

Or as I have done sometimes in Reaper just send the kick out to a separate track.

I am very happy with the compressor after one week or more, i find out how it work good.
The compressor can boost the attack transients so even with many reverb the drums have much punch and stay in front.

Try setting top to low. 100, 70,70,100 for kick and snare, hats only to hear what he can do.
For my taste too much attack transients, I think 90,70,70,100 best with AMB to last on and 80 when AMB to last off. But depend on reverb setting. I hope yamstick 4 have also the compressor with that good attack feature to boost transients good
