Hi Ralph,
Can JS3 randomise the Velocity of a GM Drum track,I download Midifiles to use as backing when I play and sing in Clubs Pubs etc, but usually the drums sound stiff and constant, can JS bring a bit of life to them?
Basically I'm Lazy and just want to drop JS on drum track an let it do it's thing.
Cheers
Terry

Velocity and timing modification of different drum instruments is applied by the player within Jamstix, and it is also tweakable, depending on the player.

Try it yourself: Import your midi groove and let the player do "his thing". Smile

Have you tried a velocity automation envelope? i would be curious as to the results on that.

I imagine for much velocity variation you need to let JS "jam with something.

Why not experiment with one or two songs, and see what you get.

Thanks guys,
not sure if I made myself clear enough, say for ex: i down load a midi file of religion (REM) and the drums have been programmed with the velocities at 127, can JS3 randomies the Velocities in real time as it's playing in GM mode.
I guess the the answer will be no, but if it is possible to to (Ralph) it would be a great help and save a lot of editing.

Doc I will try your suggestion but I don't think it's what I'm trying to achieve.

I am not familiar with tracktion, but in most DAWs you open an automation window, or add automation to the track, and then add nodes to it and have it adjust the velocities as it goes. It would take some time but would most likely work well.

Why not dice the midi drums up into groove clips and import them into JS so as to add the feel of the original but let JS jam to that groove?

The solution is to use 'Normal Jam' mode and the 'Import' style in Jamstix, load the MIDI file into it and then select a drummer of your choice. Now play your host and the drummer will humanize velocity and timing.
