|

This is the newbiest of newbie questions. I have Sonar Home Studio 7 XL. I've downloaded Jamstix 2. I have a Saffire LE connected to my computer. I've used Jamstix before on another computer, but I don't have a good understanding of MIDI, or virtual instruments, etc. Now that I'm trying to get back into it, all of my past knowledge is gone. I've looked over the forums, and while I'm sure this is covered elsewhere, I couldn't find anything to help me. Here are some details:
1. My MIDI inputs and outputs in Sonar Home Studio are set to the Saffire. I can play the tutorial track, which consists of four audio tracks and a Master (I'm not sure what that is) and can hear it fine with my headphones plugged into the Saffire.
2. In Sonar Home Studio I can open an empty file (no tracks) I created, and if I go to Insert>Soft Synths I can see jamstix2 appearing.
3. If I go to the icon for adding a track in Sonar Home Studio, then choose Instrument Track > Cakewalk TTS-1 it will bring up the big TTS-1 mixer thing with 16 tracks, and if I click on the note symbols along the bottom I can hear sounds, which I presume are MIDI sounds. (15 are the same piano sounds, one is a drum sound. If you hold down the button it plays an entire tune.)
Based on the above, I think I'm well-positioned to use Jamstix, but from there I'm lost. I've tried and tried to insert Jamstix this way or that, but I'm stumped. By the way, I'm running Windows 7 32-bit.
If there are tutorial posts that can help me, please point me to them, or help me out here. I know there's something about needing a dummy audio track, or looping, or something, in Sonar Home Studio in order for Jamstix to work.
I'd also like to know the settings for both Jamstix and Sonar Home Studio that allow me to either actually program out a drum track using Jamstix's interface or to just have Jamstix 'jam along' with me.
A friendly warning: If you start using language like, 'Make sure your sequencer is set to interface with the MIDI transponder so that the ...." you're going to lose me. I'm more along the ability level of needing, "First you click on File > Open > Insert Track....etc.
Any help you can provide here, or point me to, that will help me is very much appreciated. |

I'm so frustrated with this I'm about to give up. If I can insert Cakewalk TTS-1 as an effect in an audio track in Sonar Home Studio and hear stuff, why can't I do the same with Jamstix? I wish someone could explain this 1) In an understandable way, and 2) In a complete way, not halfa**ed and leaving out key pieces of information that leave someone (like me) stumped.
Can you tell I'm frustrated? Why won't this thing make any SOUND! ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

| I guess I didn't have something installed right. I uninstalled and re-installed Jamstix 2 and now I'm working! Oh, I'm so happy right now! Now I'm ready to rock! |

I'd done everything EXCEPT load the kit(s) into Jamstix! Once I did that it was rockin' away. I'd forgotten how awesome Jamstix is. I'm very excited to get into using it again. |
