Here's a hot-jazz swing -style track with JS3 drums.
"That Old Thing"

Appreciate any feedback.

That's a really cool "Old Thing"
JS sounds really natural in your song - good work! |

Good work but it may over-recorded and distorting or you don't need to compete in the,"Loudness" wars especially with this style.
However I also suspect your Page host's conversion software is ruining the sound. This happens on Myspace and Facebook.Their converters are crap.
Try a free Reverbnation sound.Much better quality/max file size 8 meg though.See sig. |

Thanks Keys!
Sheppol - I did push the limiters a bit but I have experience some obvious clipping while streaming from the site before which may be what you were referring to.
I use the site because they give a lot of unsigned Aussie artists air time on national radio or other 'prizes' like massive support gigs or song-writing workshops. Not that I've won anything...
If you get a moment, instead of streaming you could download the MP3 file. It's directly exported from Reaper using LAME @ 192kbps VBR (site maximum). |

I just downloaded and listened.Remember this is just my opinion but the Brass is too,"In Your Face" loud and brash. It was actually painful to listen too so could only stand around 10 seconds of it at my normal head phone volume which I use for commercial mp3s as well.
With the Brass being panned so far left and right this also adds to an unpleasant experience.I don't mean to be harsh but this is how it affected me and I listen to Heavy Rock.
Try and find a similar style commercial recording and do an A/B test. |

Thanks for your time Sheppol_A.
I did A/B with a commercial track but I didn't have anything in my collection with the sound I was after. I deliberately wanted it to sound bright and sharp (not harsh though) whereas everything I had was a lot smoother. Maybe I over-did it???
I did not listen with headphones so I will revisit the mix with a set.
Much appreciated!!

Jazzmandan, you intrigued me with the musician simile but I couldn't see how to listen to him without purchasing...
I'm not exactly a jazz artist - the 3 tracks on my link are Jazz, Hip-hop and Rock/Electro genres respectively - so I'm quite happy to be confused in any way with a real jazz musician!
My main style (as Matt Finlay) is acoustic/folk/rock: http://triplejunearthed.com/mattfinlay
