Hello Ralph,
In a previous post, I was able to get the snare drum to work by using your X4-9 fix. However, I noticed some other things and would like to know if these are problems.
1. When playing a rhythm with the velocity slider at max, I can hear all the snares. However, when I move the slider to the left and the color changes to red (a lower threshold velocitry), the snares programmed for beats 1 and 2 stop playing. Is this functioning properly?
2. Secondly, with the Jamstix GUI open, I hit play on my host sequencer and Jamstix starts playing. If I close the Jamstix GUI while it is playing, the Jamstix immediateely stops playing. It is almost like the closing of the Jamstix GUI acts as a "stop play button." After this, if I open the Jamstix GUI, the Jamstix resumes playing. The opening of the Jamstix GUI acts as a "resume playing Jamstix." Some other people in the forum have mentioned this same problem. I was wondering if there is a fix?
3. Jamstix is a great program. I just adding my observations in hope that the program becomes better. Thanks |

Yes, its working properly. By default, Jamstix uses a 'reduction' logic when the velocity drops, which means it reduces snares and also kick complexity at lower levels. You can disable this by unchecking the 'Allow Reduction' box in the jam tab control panel.

We have not been able to duplicate this behavior in any host which is making it hard for us to fix it but we're on it. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

DJ, could you check something for us?
Could you set Jamstix to manual mode with a MIDI track so you can play the Jamstix sounds manually from your keyboard, then close the Jamstix GUI and see if you can still manually play sounds with the keyboard?
Thanks! _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Hey Ralph,
I followed your suggestion and a similar problem occurs. When the Jamstix GUI is open, the sounds respond from my midi keyboard in manual jam. When I close the Jamstix GUI, it stops responding from my midi keyboard.
I'm just wondering since I updated from (demo versions) 1.02 E to 1.02 G to 1.2 to X4-9, something got corrupted? I'm considering deleting all my jamstix files and starting all over. If I did this, do you think I would end up at the same condition I'm presently experiencing?
Please let me know if there's something else you'd like me to try. Thanks |

Hello Ralph,
I believe I solved the problem! In the midi channel whose midi out is connected to jamstix, I changed the midi in from "Presonus FIREPOD Midi In (Emulated) to "All Midi Inputs." Now jamstix functions whether GUI is open or closed. Why? I don't know.
One other question. While creating a rhythm, I've used the change velokcity function by right clicking the selected box and scrolling up or down. In the manual, it says there is a reading of this velocity value using the status box. I haven't been able to read these values using the status box. Any tips? Thanks again.
It's amazing sometimes that asking an obscure question can lead in a roundabout way to the solution of a problem! |

Sorry Ralph,
Spoke too soon. The problem isn't fixed. Here's what's happening now.
I open my saved project in Cubase that uses jamstix. The jamstix GUI is closed. Hit play and jamstix starts playing. I hit edit button on the midi channel that has jamstix on the midi out. Jamstix GUI opens and jamstix keeps playing. I close the jamstix GUI and jamstix quits playing. Doesn't matter if Firepod Midi In Emulated or All Midi Inputs selected. The closing of jamstix GUI by clicking the upper right hand corner "X" stops jamstix cold.
Now here's the weird thing. Open jamstix GUI with edit button and hit play. Jamstix plays. On the large midi info box on the left side, I select any of the midi parameters. Jamstix GUI closes. But............jamstix keeps playing! Now I'm confused. Close jamstix GUI by hitting the "X" and jamstix stops. Can't figure out this one out. Any ideas? Thanks again. |

We figured the GUI problem out. It only affects the demo version of Jamstix. We'll have a fix soon. _________________ Ralph Zeuner
