Hey all!

I am starting to get a feel for JS, and am getting some results that I like. One thing I am unclear on however, is how to handle the end of a song. I'd like JS to do an ending fill, and then play just the downbeat of the final measure (nice big splash cymbal, maybe). Take a listen to end of this rough instrumental mix (sorry about the length). How do I keep JS from running on too long?

Thanks!

Bill

I can't speak for others, but I just use the arranger panel. Mute all the bars after the song finishes and change the last bar to an 'end fill'.

Yeah, I did mute the bars after the last bar, however, that last bar should only have one "hit" on the downbeat of beat 1. The last guitar chord happens then too.

Maybe I am using an incorrect end fill? they all (at least the ones I've tried) seem to play through the entire measure.

you can also try to "Mute Brain" (available since Beta X4-7) and do the hit manually with a midi track that uses JS as output

AFAIK there´s no fill that uses only the downbeat 1 and then mutes.
I´d do it manually using the drum editor of your host.
Another possibility would be to compose a rhythm only with an accent on downbeat 1 and silence afterwards and use this rhythm as the final one.

BTW: Your song creates a nice mood.

Thanks for the suggestions! I'll look into 'em and see what I can come up with.

Zauni: if you have any thoughts on options, I'd also appreciate it.

Thanks!!

Hi Bill, first off I must say I like your song a lot. As Doc said, the track has a very nice mood to it! Would love to hear the final version if possible...

Concerning the ending: I may not fully understand the question but whenever you place an ending on a bar in the arranger (E symbol, not F), Jamstix will play the ending, then play a kick/crash on the downbeat of the next beat and then stop playing. Isn't that what you need? I listened to your MP3 and it sounded as if there was a 'Stop it cold' fill (not ending) at the end because I didn't hear the final kick/crash.

It sounds as though that's exactly what he needs Smile . To be honest, I hadn't noticed this behaviour, because I've always put the 'end fill' on the last bar and then used a midi editor to change it as/if required. Obviously, I need to spend more time with Jamstix - there's a lot going on which I haven't explored yet - but there's never enough hours in the day.

Thanks for the kind words about the song. Hopefully, I will actually get it done!

As far as the ending goes, I am not at my main recording computer, so I will check tonight to see if I have it set to Ending instead of Fill.

In the meantime, here's a short little lunchtime ramble with the last bar of the JS arrangement set to be an ending (All Over). I think that it's playing on the downbeat, but I am having a little trouble telling for sure. It seems to go with the arrangement though.

Simple but effective! Really shows off Jamstix...

I don't hear the downbeat. Could you save this arrangement as a FXP and send it to support@rayzoon.com so we can research this a bit?

Thanks!

Bill,

Please share how you got Jamstix to get progressively busier. I really like how the tune opens with just simple off beat cymbal work and the occasional snare and kick.

I created an automation envelope in my host (FL Studio) that is linked to Jamstix MIDI Automation velocity parameter. I then drew an envelope that controls the velocity setting in the Jamstix arrangement. The higher the velocity, the busier the playing.

Many thanks Bill. Jamstix justs gets better and better as I understand it more. The flexibility and power is almost too much to handle.
