Am I right in that there's no way of directly layering drum hits in JS?

If so, I guess I need to prepare a layered sample off-line.

Can you recommend a BD sample from the Jamstic collection (I have all expansions) that is almost entirely klick?

Here's the drum track from a project I'm working on. I love the low thump of the kick (22'' Birch DP1), but there's no click even with heavy EQ.

This is one area where JS is weak IMHO.There is no good modern processed snare or really clicky/thwack Kick drum ala Addictive drums/BFD.
Ralph should address this as there's a massive market for the modern,"Metal" sounding kick, snare and Toms.
When I bought the Metal pack I was disappointed that there's nothing in it that comes close to real,"Metal" kits.I don't do much of that genre but this is a,"Major" let-down on the drum samples in JS.

However try the Epak Room Mate kick damped a lot and with some heavy compression and EQ.

If you are running windows try the, Antress Modern Deathcore distortion compressor on it,

http://antress.er-webs.com/

Or download the Addictive Drums Demo and run it alongside and borrow<cough> some sounds. This is a short demo of the AD demo.No processing in the DAW except a limiter on the Master but the sounds in AD tweaked,

http://www.box.net/shared/qdl6qhcfe6

I cannot stand the cymbals and hi-hat sounds in AD or the other Drum sampler software but some of the kicks and snares are far superior to JS for modern sounds I'm afraid IMHO.

This is a mixed kit running JS(Classic XL) and AD Demo together.Toms aren't right but hope you get the idea,

Thanks for the input.

I've downloaded and installed the AD demo. How do I get the bass drum hit so I can use it in Jamstix? I see no .wav files.

The MetalPak kick (as most others) is unprocessed. You need to use the JS mixer or host FX to process as needed just as you would in a studio with real drums.

The JS3 stock kick has a lot of beater sound and we get good results with the JS EQ at 100/24/-41 and compressor at 30/0/32/65.

Also, the next JS update (3.1) will include a JS3 stock kit with modern EQ/compression.

They way I did it in Reaper was to run the AD Demo on a separate track and send the midi kick and snare notes from the Jamstix track to the AD track and lower the volumes of the Snare and kick on the JS track. You will have to work out how to get this working depending on your DAW.

If you want to get a free sample player and use some separate wavs

then here's a couple of packs of samples I made a while ago both around 15 meg compressed,

What is the JS3 stock kit? Is it the same as in JS2?

As an aside - when loading Jamstix 3 and then the song file 'modern metal', I get no sound. Kit says 'standard metal' but '34 sounds mising'.

JS3 and JS2 stock kits are different. Please install the JS3 kits and your missing file problem will be fixed. I've renewed all your download links.

Still looking for the best way to layer - not replace - the kick drum, as I've found one with a low-end I love, but no click.

Thanks a lot - I just understood your reply in my thread 'Upgrading to 3 or 3XL - new content?' differently.

Which kicks do you want to layer?

It's the 22'' Birch DP1 that I like for bottom end (heavily EQ'd though - attenuated in the low mids). Has no click.

I would sub-host or MIDI drive whatever sample player I have and trigger a kick sample with the desired click on top of the JS kick.

Thanks. Yes, that's of course the solution. Maybe Jamstix will one day allow internal layering?
