|
|
I've got a song written in a Who style (think Won't Get Fooled Again) where I would like some Keith Moon style drums.
Because there are some specific syncopations during verses I want the drums to play those with the guitar and bass. I guess I will have to put those in manually. Around those, throughout the verses and choruses, I want something that goes way past an 8th rock style, using lots of accents and short fills all over the place. I don't know how to approach getting this. The structure within Jamstix is great with transition and repetition fills but its something much more fluid, that I'm looking for, in addition to the obvious fill points in the song.
I hope that makes some sort of sense! |

Thanks for your response. I thought you might suggest Animal!
I did try that Drummer a while ago in version 2, but found it hard to keep any sense of beat/timing.
Would I need to put in a kick pattern manually and then use other controls to "tame" the style? I don't want manic fill playing absolutely evrywhere.
Thanks |

Try this:
- load Toolbox->Standard Rock
- adjust the kick grid in the brain to match your desired pattern
- load 'Animal'
- click on header 'Crazy Left' and activate 'Bias' control
- move the Bias slider to 75% to restrict it to the second part of the bar (or left to go the other way) and adjust 'Amount' to fit your taste
- repeat for 'Crazy Right' _________________ Ralph Zeuner

I just thought I'd let you know that, after a lot of playing around with this, I've got the sort of result that I was imagining in my head.
I gave it to the drummer in the band I gig with to listen to, and he was massively impressed with Jamstix!
He'd offered to have a go at creating a drum part for me but I don't think he feels he can compete with the version I've created using Jamstix.
To be fair to him, the style I was looking for is nothing like his normal style anyway.
I found that reducing the % on crazy left and crazy right to 5% in choruses and 10% in verses was about right. In fact the fluidity came not from fills particularly but from the variation in the groove, and asking it to recompose loads of times till I got what I wanted.
Animal also gave a fantastic 4 bar long fill to end the song! Very Moonie!
Interestingly the beat was kept (loosely) by the hi-hat. As Nightscoper said Moon didn't use a hi-hat ( in the later years of the Who anyway). I want to redirect the h-hat to ride or cymbals but am already redirecting Tom 1 as I don't like the sound of it.
How can I achieve redirection of both tom 1 and hi-hat?
thanks |

- left-click on header "Redirection" and name it anything you want, i.e. 'Tom Redir'
- click "Extract From Other Player" in the brain menu and select 'Comp Filter Redirection' from a player (does not matter who).
- you now have another 'Redirection' element in the brain and can steer the hihat to the ride

Is it possible to just disable tom 1 to stop it playing and automatically get all hits that would have occured there going to tom 2? I haven't got a manual with me, and am away from my computer with Jamstix on it.
Thanks |

Not unless you don't want to use Tom1 at all in the song. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Yes I'm happy to not have tom 1 playing anywhere in the song. I can't see how to disable just tom 1 though. How do I do that? |

Go the kit editor and assign the sound for Tom 2 to Tom 1. _________________ Ralph Zeuner
