JS3 3.0 was working fine in Cubase Studio 5. (I think v5.1.x)
I have just upgraded both CS5 (to 5.5.0) then JS3 (to 3.1). With hindsight, I stupidly didn't test each step between upgrades.
When I went into an old project had no sound from JS3, so reloaded the Standard kit to check, and got '41 sounds missing'.
Checked the Config Settings, and it seemed to be pointing at the right path (different drive).
Closed down Cubase.
Renamed the Data folder to _Data
Reopened Cubase and project to get the 'Cannot find...' dialog and repointed at the new name.
Project opened, Jamstix has sound! All good!
Did some stuff. saved and closed.
Next day, re-opened project and '41 sounds missing'.
Re-check Config Settings path - looks right.
Now very confused and decide something weird has happened. Uninstalled JS3 and renamed Data folder to get it out of the picture.
Re-installed JS3.0 and both stock-kit packs to default locations.
Created brand new project with 1 track and added JS3.
No sounds.
Closed CS5, renamed data folder. Re-opened CS5, got 'Cannot find...' dialogue and pointed to renamed _data folder. Project opened, Jamstix has sound! All good! (apparently.
A bit suspicious by now, I closed the project (leaving CS5 open) and re-opened. Still have sounds!
Just to be sure. I close CS5 and re-opened the project.
No sound '41 sounds missing'
What am I doing wrong |

Very odd. Please repeat the '41 missing sounds' incident and then close the project and send me rzdlog.txt from My Documents\Jamstix3. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Update:
Thanks to Ralph for his emailed suggestions. After several re-installs, I still can't get JS3.x (any version) to work consistently inside Cubase Studio 5.5 running in XP (although there is at least one user on Cubase.net that reports this combo working OK).
Decided to uninstall / reinstall cubase studio and retest as I went through the update path
v5.0.0 - good
v5.0.1 - good
v5.1.0 - good
v5.1.1 - good
v5.5.0 - broken - JS3 can't find sounds although the filepath is unchanged.
For the benefit of anyone with related symptoms, there is a lot of noise on Cubase.net about various problems with plugins within 5.5. Many seem to be related to 'permissions' in some way. Steinberg have created a sticky with a template to log the faults (link above) and assured us that they are taking them seriously (although offer no info about what they are doing or if / when they expect to provide a patch).
Meanwhile, tonight's job will be to un-in / re-in Cubase back up to 5.1.1 and stop there. I quite like the look of 5.5, so hopefully I'll be able to post back when Steinberg sort out their end of the deal... |

Watching this with interest...I was just going to upgrade to 5.5 and then read this.
Looking forward to resolution before I upgrade.

Curiously, I recently upgraded Cubase to ver 5.5 and am not experiencing the problem you have there. Odd.
I run Cubase 32bit on Windows 7-64bit OS. |

I'm running on XP 32 bit. However there is at least 1 JS3 user on Cubase.net that confirms this as a working combination so there must be some other variable in my set-up that is different to his and causing the problem. I only wish I knew what it is!
I have uninstalled 5.5 / reinstalled Cubase Studio 5.0.0 from disk, then run updates for 5.0.1 > 5.1.0 > 5.1.1 2 twice now. So far it seems to have been surprisingly painless. I didn't have to re-register anything or muck around with the eLicense etc. and Halion player wasn't effected as it is a seperate install.
Given that reverting to 5.1.1 doesn't seem to be that hard why not give the upgrade a go? Probably best avoided if you're working to any deadlines tho - I just wasted a rare weekend where I had the house to myself and could have been playing music, not fault finding and re-installing software
No guarantees on offer tho - YMMV! |
