|

Hello. First off, I am having a blast with your software. It is blowing my mind every time I use it. The drumming is spot-on perfect, and the drum tones themsleves are as good as I've heard. Keep up the good work.
Having got the JS drummer to do exactly what I want, I now want to record that performance to audio tracks. I am running Win XP, hosting in Sonar 6, and using JS 2.5.2. I set JS to Jam With Audio, and used the audio plug-in to send some audio tracks to 'power' the JS performance. To render soft synths to audio in Sonar, one uses the Edit - Bounce To Tracks commands, choosing the JS audio track as source. I quickly learned that the "Fast Bounce" command needs to be unchecked for Bounce To Tracks to work with JS, so that the bounce occurs in real time.
When I did this, I first noticed that the audio that was rendered contained all of JS's drum hits, but the performance lacked the 'power' that I got from using the audio input to JS. so the audio track that was rendered was flat and lifeless compared to the performance I heard from the JS playback.
I then tried to solve this problem by using the Freeze command in JS. I played the song all the way through, and enabled Freeze in JS. With JS now frozen, I discovered that the JS Kit Mute and Solo cammands no longer worked. This meant that I could not record just the Kick drum or Snare drum to an audio track. Because I wanted a "virtual Snare mic" on it's own track, and a "virtual Kick mic", and "virtual Tom mic", all on their own tracks, I had to give up on the Freeze command as a way to capture JS's lively performance in audio.
I next tried using Midi. I recorded the JS performance as a Midi track, and switched JS to "Drum Module Mode". In this way, I have been able to capture all the performance nuances of JS playing on a solo snare track, solo kick track, solo Hi-hat track , All Toms soloed track, and a "room" track (the entire JS kit with ambience).
My questions: 1) is there a way to get the livliness and nuances of a JS performance when "jamming with audio" captured using Bounce To Tracks in Sonar? 2) is there a way to enable Kit Mute and Solo commands when JS is "frozen" 3) On playback, JS drums are spread across the stereo field. When I Bounce to Tracks using the JS audio track as source, what I hear is NOT stereo, even though I rendered to a stereo audio track. I get stereo spread by selecting a bus as source. I'm confused because I thought the JS audio track WAS output in stereo. Can anyone help me with this?
Any input on my questions is appreciated. And thanks again for a great software instrument!! jmp |

Only if Sonar sends data to audioM8 while bouncing. Try muting audioM8 and including its track in the bounce.

I'll see what we can do. You may also want to try using multiple outputs (kit menu in JS) so that the drums are spread across outputs, which you can then easily mute/solo in Sonar.

Make sure 'Amb To Last' is off in the JS mixer.
