As a user upgrading from JS2 (I believe XXL) and being prepaid, I'm a little confused now as to which version I would expect to be getting after looking at this.
Ralph, would you mind clarifying??
could you chart the differences?

Yes, you have a pre-order.
The way it works is that the update maintains whatever level you had for JS2. In your case that is the XL level so after running the JS3 installer, you will have Jamstix 3XL.

So the differences would be the additional packs (that came with JS2? )
New kit also?
ie bonzo or metal or jamcussion? are they upgraded versions--any differences??

XL, MetalPak, BonzoPak and Jamcussion are the same for JS2 and JS3, except for the functional changes in JS3 that also benefit those expansions.
JS3 comes with a brand-new stock kit.
