|
|
Hi, I want to import my own midi groove and have Jamstix do my fills, etc., but I want a different groove in a different section of the song.
I assume that I will have to do this by inserting another instance of Jamstix into Sonar just for that section but I don't think I have read that anywhere.
Is that correct? Is there another way to do it?
Oh, another question: is it common practice among Jamstix users to, after a basic song is created in Jamstix, to export as it as an audio file (i.e., bounce to clip) and then cut it up and move it around as necessary?
I appreciate any feedback. Thanks. |

| I'm not sure how to answer the first part (although it seems to me you should be able to import a midi file for each part of the song and change its groove) but in regards to your second question, I would usually have the whole song complete in Jamstix before I exported anything but if I wanted to experiment with song arrangement after the fact, I would be more inclined to drag and drop the midi file into the host timeline and put jamstix into drum module mode. This would have the same flexibility as moving audio clips around but be much easier to make any slight changes. Don't like a cymbal shot? just delete the midi note, whereas with an audio clip it will be 'baked in" already and a pita to remove. Once it is "perfect" you can render from the host. |

Thanks for the reply. That makes sense to keep the midi for as long as possible to be able to tweak it.
And in regard to the first part of the question I was talking strictly about importing midi clips. I used the word 'groove' because I think that is the word that Jamstix uses.
I have a one-bar midi clip (drums, of course) that I want Jamstix to build on. No problem. We know it does that. But then, in a different section of the same song, I want to use a different one-bar midi clip. Do I need two instances of Jamstix to do that? It seems to make sense but I haven't seen examples of other people using multiple instances of Jamstix in a DAW like Sonar.
Thanks! |

You don't need two instances. Simply create more parts in the song sheet of Jamstix. Each part has its own style and drummer. Jamstix plays the parts sequentially (i.e. intro-verse-verse-chorus...) _________________ Ralph Zeuner
