Here is what I would like to do:
JamStix2 midi Out -> Midi Track -> BFD2 -> Audio Out
|
------Jamcussion -> Audio Out
In other words I want to use internal jamcussion sounds in conjunction with external BFD2 sounds controlled via the JamStix MIDI output.
I do not want to subhost BFD2 within JamStix.
Pre-Jamcussion I did the first part by selecting " midi only". However, if I want to use the internal Jamcussion sounds I must deselect the "midi only".
So it seems like I need to provide midi mappings for the drum kit pieces without loading an internal sound or subhosted dll.
Is this possible?

I think I've answered my own question. But it involves editing files, so if there is a better or "proper" way to do this, please let me know.
Let's say I have set up a custom kit in BFD2 that I want to use.
1) In JamStix2, load up the default BFD2-vistalite. This will load BFD2 as a subhost (temporarily).
2) Load the custom BFD2 kit mentioned above in the subhosted BFD2.
3) Edit the Jamstix 2 mappings to match the subhosted custom kit.
4) Save the JS2 kit under a new name (i.e. BFD2 - Custom).
5) Edit the file in data/kits/BFD/BFD2 - Custom.j2k
6) Remove the reference to the BFD2.dll
7) Load the modified BFD2 -Custom kit in JS2. All the mappings are there, but the dll is not loaded.
8) Configure the host to route JS2 midi -> midi track -> BFD2.
9) Load the BFD2 Custom kit in the non-subhosted BFD2.
Make sure Midi Only is not selected. Jamcussion internal instruments now play out of JamStix, but the drum kit does not. Instead the midi is sent to BFD2 and played from there instead.
Ralph - if there is a better way, let me know. This seems pretty good though. Takes a bit to set up trhe first time, but once its set, it's done.

That's a good way to do it but you can skip the manual editing by simply removing the subhosted DLL in the plugin interface options. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

I guess that's where I have the problem. I don't see how you remove the subhosted DLL other than loading another kit. And as soon as you do that you lose the mappings (unless its the kit I just created, without the subhosted DLL).

Open the BFD interface in JS2 and then click 'Remove' in the JS frame around BFD. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Ahh - the ol' slight of hand. I was busy looking in the JamStix GUI and didn't even notice there was a JamStix frame around the subhosted plugin.
Thanks. As always your customer support is outstanding.
