Hi Zauni - After spending some really fun time w/ Jamstix, I have come up with some observations, leading to some questions:
1) I've set up Jamstix in a Cubase project, as per the manual - except this time, just to see what happens, I don't have any MIDI data in the project (it's empty, except for Jamstix loaded as a VSTi, and a MIDI track with "all MIDI input" as the input, and Jamstix as the output).
When I set Jamstix to Free Jam and hit play, it begins jamming - as above, without any MIDI data on the track. If I begin playing, it will appropriately adjust the jam to the velocity of my notes.
Does this mean that there is a basic jam (as determined by the control panel and track tempo), that is then altered by the velocity of my notes?
2) OK, now I've recorded a MIDI track while jamming in Free Jam. When I play back, I get the sense that whatever jamming Jamstix did when I played live is what is played back. Every time I play back (I've got a small loop running), I think I hear the same drums, even if I am in "Free Jam Mode" during the playback. Is this right?
3) So, I decided I would like to audition different jams while playing back my recorded MIDI track. In "Free Jam"I press the "Jam Reset" button on the control panel, but the loop keeps playing the same jam as before. Does this button only work in a "live" jam, i.e., while recording? If I want to audition different jams during playback, should I be changing the various parameters on the control panel? Or ...?
All these questions are just to help me get my arms around this program. Even after just a morning of messing around, I have drum tracks that sound pretty darn good ... and that's without any tweaking, level setting, etc. I am really happy with this product so far - I can't wait to learn more about how to really use it close to its real potential!

Yes, Jamstix does not require MIDI input to jam, it will start a jam based on the jam tab settings even without input.

This is by design so that you can playback a jam and it stays the same. The quickest way to start over is to click 'Free Jam' again. You will see the arrangement be cleared and all bars lose their highlighted color (which indicates they were played and 'set')
