I have no quick suggestions, would have to spend time with it.

Yes, it's a tricky one. I'll give it a shot this week.

I'm here to resurrect this thread a year later. I just got some tips from Ralph on how to make a groove in the style of The Roots that I wanted to share here. This stuff isn't trivial to me so it would be fantastic for everyone to post their tips on recreating grooves.

Quote:
Here is how you can get that crossstick groove:

load 8th Rock
rename 'Kick' to 'Downbeat'
use 'Extract From Other Style' in the brain menu and select the 'Groove -Kick' from 'E-Kustom' in the 'Electronica' folder
set BIAS in 'Downbeat' all the way left so it will just create the downbeat kick
for the 'Kick' set heavy=0, medium=30, funky=62, BIAS=42
in 'Auto Snare', set max power all the way right to force the crossticking
Experiment with the medium, funky and BIAS settings in the 'Kick' to change things up a bit.

Peace \/

Here's another excellent groove by Ralph. This one will have Jamstix sounding like an early 70s soul drummer!

Quote:
- load 8th rock
- turn on 16th shuffle for the part with max shuffle slider
- rename kick to 'Base Kick' or anything else you like
- extract "Kick" from E-Kustom and set it to heavy=0 medium=max funky=0 and bias 45%
- set 'Hihat E' to middle position
- extract '16th Kick' from '16th Rock' and set BIAS=-32 and amount=100%
- load James Stix and set throw-ins in accents to 40% or more

Groove in the style of Portishead - Glory Box (originally posted by Ralph)

Quote:
- set BPM to around 110-120
- use '8th Rock' style with kick complexity at 15%
- turn on 8th shuffle and set shuffle to 100%
- turn on 'Halftime'
- load 'James Stix' drummer
- in FILL tab, set 'Toms' under 'Focus' to 0% and 'Simplify' to 100%

This will get you close. If you need the precise kick behavior and 2-bar snare scheme from 'Glory Box' then you'll need to hand-edit in 8th shuffle mode at the same BPM and then use 'Turn Groove Into Style' in the bar editor menu.

John Bonham's When The Levee Breaks (originally posted by Ralph)

Quote:
I listen to the original and determine that it is a two-bar halftime rock pattern. Hihat and snare are standard rock stuff so I use the 'Custom Rock' style to start off with. The kick is a unique two-bar pattern so I edit that myself in an empty part and save the bars. Now I disable the kicks in 'Custom Style' (or move their sliders to zero) and then I add a 'groove importer' via the add function of the brain menu. I select my saved kick groove. The groove is now complete.

The quarter hihats are not open in the original. They are just hard played 15" hats and the 8th notes in between are much quieter. You do that by raising the 'Main Hats' power and lowering the '8th hats'.

Finally, I select the 'John' model, of course and the 'Big&Fat' BonzoPak kit. I couldn't match the snare sound but approximated it by tuning the snare up a bit.

Ralph has been kind enough to help me with a Radiohead song here.

I was looking for Presets for Jamstix , but i guess its not that type of VSTi. This post comes close to what was hoping for.

* anyone know any tips to try for Country Western (Classic , Not Modern which is just Pop beats)...

Like above where it shows Ralphs advice to Load ____, Tweak this, that... but how-what to do for Classic Country Ballads and Shuffles?

I would love to get my hands on any Ringo stuff. He's so good with being very minimal but supporting the song to the max. He's also a minor Fill god, IMO!

BTW - in JS3 there is a Style called Country Ballad, and I think it can be shuffled, so maybe that's what you need! Very Happy
