Alright, not sure how to phrase my question, so I'll just explain what I would like to do, and see if somebody can help me figure out how to make it happen.
Step 1:
I finally figured out how to do the basic "jam with audio" thing, where Jamstix came up with some drum beats I liked, I recorded some guitar stuff alongside it, and I'm feeling good about where the song is going. The problem is, I'm new to Jamstix (just bought it less than 24 hours ago), and I'm afraid if I hit the wrong button, it'll erase the drum parts I like, but I currently have 30 bars or so, of random drum stuff to sort through.
Step 2:
I would like to take the first 8 bars, export them as midi files, and then use them in BFD2 (outside of Jamstix). For peace of mind, I'd rather keep my "finished drum beats" seperate from the Jamstix "jamming/fishing for ideas" drum beats, so I currently have it setup to play through a basic Jamstix kit in Jamstix, and a custom kit in BFD2.
Step 3:
The problem is, if I just drag & drop those 8 bars into the BFD2 midi section in Sonar, the drums sound really weird. (Suddenly there are too many bass drum hits, things aren't syncing properly, everything just sounds off).
I'm guessing to do what I'm trying to do, I would have to create a custom drum map or something? I'm pretty bad at making drum maps, so that makes me nervous. I do however, have an excellent custom drum map (for my keyboard to control BFD2) that I've grown quite fond of. I'd like to somehow use that as the Jamstix drum map too (if possible) so that everything is universally revolving around my custom drum map.
So... I guess this is sort of a random bunch of issues, but if anybody sees something in there that you think you can help me with, I'd appreciate help with any part of this post. I love the idea of Jamstix, and it's fun to "jam" with to come up with ideas, but I'm having a hard time finding enjoyment in trying to build a bridge between Jamstix & BFD2 inside Sonar, while still keeping my keyboard (Korg Kontrol49) relevant for future changes to the drum beats.
Make sense? Anybody have any words of wisdom to help point me in the right direction?
Thanks for your time to anybody that reads this whole post! Ha. |

Use the song menu in the song sheet to store safety copies of the current arrangement.

One of the ways to fix this is to go the kit loading screen in JS2, select the BFD2 kit and then check 'KEYS ONLY' so it won't actually load BFD2 but the key mapping of BFD2. Now you can drag the MIDI and it should be played back correctly by BFD2. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Sounds like that could possibly work for what I'm wanting to do. But since I use a custom drum map for BFD2 (one that I created from scratch) is there any way to import my custom BFD2 drum map into Jamstix, and still have Jamstix recognize it (create parts for the correct drums), that way when I export the midi file, it would work with my custom map / keyboard?
Or do I have to just get use to using the one BFD2 default keymap?
Like... Can I take my BFD2 drum map, and somehow load it directly into Jamstix? Or would I have to convert it over somehow? Or make a new drum map in Jamstix, and manually create it to be similar to my BFD2 map (which could prove to be pretty difficult if there's no other way)? |

You can load BFD2 into JS2, then load a custom BFD2 kit into BFD2 and adjust the kit in JS2 if necessary (add/remove sounds in the kit editor) _________________ Ralph Zeuner
