We are shooting for having it in the initial 3.0 release. If it isn't ready then it will be delivered in one of the free maintenance releases thereafter. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

No, it will still be 32-bit.
OSX and 64-bit versions require more time than we have left until September. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Will JS3 be able to load samples without the need to host another vst into it? Maybe the possibility to build our own multilayered drumkits within JS3 itself?
Cheers |

We simply can't get it done in 2009 but have to release the next major update. Not just because of the 2-year cycle but also because we need to get a better GUI out there as soon as we can.
So, again, Jamstix OSX will be released whenever it is finished with no further wait and I am pretty sure that we will offer free OSX upgrades to all Jamstix 3 users at that time. Depending on timing we may just call it Jamstix 3 OSX. We'll keep you updated. |
Thank you for the heads up, Ralph. Waiting it is, then…
Btw, a new GUI is indeed welcome (I've always been less than comfortable with the current, messy one).
Best,

Those updates sound tempting, but my wallet is crying.
It's good to know that the GUI will be redesigned. Ralph, it might be a good idea to consult users about the GUI; after all, who else is going to be so interested in all things Jamstix? Please the customers before the release of version 3 and you won't get so many headaches afterwards.
One word of caution: FXpansion recently deleted a thread on its Guru forum that had lots of user requests on it. The recent releases of BPM & MOTU were so "similar" to Guru that FXpansion, frustrated at the, how shall I put it, lack of originality from its competitors, decided to keep the development of Guru 2 under wraps. Jamstix is pretty unique and so doesn't have many direct competitors but it's worth keeping in mind.
Anyway, I'd like beer, orange juice and anchovy-stuffed olives buttons on version 3 - or else. _________________ Read reviews of free netlabel and/or Creative Commons music at Catching The Waves, the net's most amateurish blog devoted to free music. |

While this is on the wish list, it has not been a priority since most users are fine with hosting a sample player. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

We should have some alpha screenshots of the new GUI within the next few weeks. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

i don't think JS should focus on this, because it would be hard to beat existing samplers and hosts. _________________ listen to my music at

I thought the point was to suggest something to make JS3 better not to particularly beat whatsoever..
anyways I'll still keep hoping for that feature, who knows..

One major new feature in Jamstix 3 will be 'load-on-demand' for the sample engine, which will drastically reduce memory usage. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Here is a REALLY REALLY UNFINISHED GUI screenshot of the brain panel showing the new integrated virtual kit and the bar editor panel. I'm just posting this to give you all an idea of the theme and quality of the GUI that we are going for with Jamstix 3. So, again, this is REALLY EARLY and so VERY VERY UNFINISHED

Whoa! Awesome first look! Kinda "Superior Drummer-esk"
One thing I will state right up front while this is very unfinished is :
Pick a font "family" and stay with it. Even in this early shot I see at 4 different font styles - ALL lending to the "cluttered" look of past versions.
I am really looking forward to this overhaul and how much this will make a difference to my workflow. It's been a struggle with 2.x to say the least.... |
