Saw,
I did some research. I don't think it can be done with Logic and Reaper.
Logic does not support syncing to external midi clock, it only supports syncing to external MTC.
I think the virtual midi port concept when going through Wine is too inconsistent to support MTC, but perhaps someone else can figure it out. I tried it a number of times and I could never get both sequencers to stay in musical sync in terms of their metronomes.
The downside of midi clock is that the slave will have its tempo wandering all over the place, according to the incoming midi clock pulses which will not be consistent over virtual midi pipes. But there are 24 pulses per beat (which is 48 pulses per second at 120BPM)...most sequencers are smart enough to average out the past few and do the right thing. But the important point is that with midi clock and SPP, the bar:beat relationships between sequencers are kept in sync.
With MTC, the real time clocks are kept in sync and there are different ways that different sequencers can effect the playback metronome according to the incoming MTC. But so far, I have been unsuccessful to get two sequencers to stay in metronome sync using MTC.
So in my view, MTC is not an acceptable solution for us here.
It might be possible to configure Logic in some way that it stays in better sync via MTC, I'm not a Logic guru.
Since Logic can't slave to external midi clock, then the only other solution I can think of is to make Logic the midi clock master, it can do that. However, I have been unsuccessful in getting Reaper to sync to an external midi clock. Please let us know if you are able to figure it out.
So yea, sorry to say, I don't think Logic will work well, but perhaps an expert Logic user will be able to figure it out. |

Anyway, what you can do in the meantime....
Just work on your drum tracks in Reaper under Wine, don't bother with the sync to Logic. You can even copy some audio files over from Logic into reaper if you need to hear some other stuff while you work on it. Work it all out in Reaper, then export the midi and audio tracks from Reaper and import back into Logic. |

I just came across this today: http://sourceforge.net/projects/wacvst/ Of course I had to test it on Jamstix. I was amazed when it actually loaded! It looks pretty decent, lets you control everything (Once you put BlockMouseMove=1 in the .ini file) but the sound won't work.
Pity, that's the most important part.
Anyway, it may be worth keeping an eye on this. |

Hey very cool! I've actually corresponded with the guy that is doing that in the past, but I haven't had time to try Jamstix. The version he sent me the first time required me to compile it myself and my system isn't setup for it.
but it sounds like he is making it open source and trying to find a way to avoid having to compile for each plugin, which is great news. There is some hope with that. |

FXpansion is irrelevant in this context since it's for wrapping Mac VSTs to AUs. It can't handle Windows VSTs at all.
I think that trying to trick JS 2 or 3 in one way or another to run on Macs is really only fruitful if one is more committed to hacking than making music
The obvious thing is to just sit tight and wait a bit longer, since Ralph is apparently committed to re-writing JS in C++ for subsequent porting to OS X.
FWIW,

Any new "news" on this?
I recently switched from PC to intel Mac and I "still" purchased JS3 just to stay in the loop...
I miss my JamStix...
Anyone?
Thanks |

At the moment IŽd recommend to put a Win XP Bootcamp partition on your Mac.
Works flawlessly for me and you donŽt have to wait for JS on Mac OS which could still take quite some time to come out. |

|
|
| I'm still running Jamstix with Reaper via Crossover Pro 7 on Leopard, but only Crossover 8+ work on Snow Leopard. Jamstix 2/3 "work" on Crossover Pro 8/9 under Snow Leopard--except for the audio jam function, which doesn't work for me at all. Has anyone had any luck with running Jamstix on Crossover under Snow Leopard? |

| oh glad to hear that Jamstix3 still works. I'm not sure I'm gonna bother to upgrade again though unless Rayzoon makes actual OSX version. Jamstix2 is working fine for me, after a lot of fiddling. |

So if I run Windows thru Bootcamp to run Jamstix, and Logic 9 is tied to the Mac OS, just how am I gonna get Jamstix loaded onto a Logic track since I can only have Windows OR the Mac OS booted, and not both at once?
Mr Obvious says what we need is an AU version of Jamstix HINT HINT! :wink |

Nope, it can still be VST - from what I know, apparently AU is 32-bit only whereas VST can be 64..
But don't forget to check this post: http://rayzoon2.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=27841#27841
Native version is coming! |
