I've tried with 2 copies of Reaper, one Windows and one Mac.
The problem is the "sync them somehow" step.
We're always going to be struggling with workarounds until the native one comes. I still say I'd be happy for the moment if there was a Jamstix Mac-native sample player. The brain can come later. |

the question is: do we really need a SYNC to the sequencer in parallels or only a CONNECTION?
the next question is:
if we only need a connection from logic to jamstix (installed on Windows/parallels)...do we need an windows-based sequencer at all? |

hi
you need a vst host to run the jamstix or you may install savihost to run the jamstix as stand alone. If you have an extra usb interface you can sync cubase to logic.you might want to check my previous posts on the subject.

Hi
I believe you can,and in fact an usb interface is more stable.make sure logic doesn`t use the interface you use on parallels.you will get the connection from windows interface via conventional midi cable attached to the interface you use on mac osx.

@funktional: i think you´re my man!
actually i have not bought jamstix yet, because i was not able to be sure that the plugin will work as expected on my mac
it would be very nice if you can give me some technical advises to get a "stable" connection from mac/logic to parallels/cubase and back.
can i contact you via PM to discuss these things?
after this is completed and working i would write down a summary for the other guys who are interested on jamstix use on mac!
regards

hi,
1.ınstall your usb midi interface to parallels
2.start cubase on parallels and make sure it sees the usb PODxt
3.if you want the cubase to be master make sure it sends its midi clock thru
usb PODxt
4.start logic with alesis(disable usb PODxt on macbecause mac and parallels can`t share the drivers)
5.make the conventional midi cable connections between alesis and usb PODxt
6set-up the logic the way it suits you since I am a cubase man I don`t know much about logic
with these steps you should have a decent midi communications bet mac and parallels.if you want the sound make sure paralles uses the alesis as system sound ,probably you would figure it out easily with alesis
peace

| Ralph has said he's hoping to include mac version with Jamstix3. Be patient. Archibald doesn't hold a flame to jamstix. |

Due to the need for a minimum of a 2-year major version cycle, we will likely have to release Jamstix 3 later this year without an OSX version.
The next major version after that (Jamstix 4) will DEFINITELY have an OSX version. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

I know
The thing is that we know at this stage that we cannot possible have the OSX version fully developed, tested and ready for release within this year.
However, we do need to release a major version this year to keep a 2-year cycle. Therefore we need to release Jamstix 3 as PC-only. It will have a MUCH nicer GUI and many other enhancements, which we'll talk about more as we get closer to its release. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

This is what I was afraid might happen to be honest. The realities.
Well the good news is that my hack job with CrossoverGames seems to be working more reliably with Reaper3 in terms of the fiddley midi. its really not such a bad setup once you do it a few times and get used to the procedure. Yes, it would be way nicer to work inside Digital Performer 100% and drag and drop midi into tracks, etc. But at least this kinda works.
I am half thinking of just taking one of my old PC's that are good enough to run Jamstix but not good enough to sell, and just make them a dedicated Jamstix box. Still not sure what midi transmission between Mac-PC would be like though. |

| The Jamstix OSX pdf has been updated to version 1.2 for anyone that is interested. Download from the top of this thread. A couple pages of usage notes have been added to the end to explain virtual midi ports, timing issues and other hosts besides DP. |
