| I use Reaper on both sides too, I got the audio, but not MIDI, routing OK, but haven't stress tested it too much. Like I said, I can have the Line 6 GearBox working in Mac just fine, the only think it doesn't do is sync between the hosts. |

I finally nailed down the crashes I have been getting, both in VMWare and in Crossover with Reaper. It does not work well with IAC or Network MIDI. As soon as it attempts to open those it becomes unresponsive and has to be forcibly killed.
I can pass both MIDI and audio over ReaStream, a Reaper VST plugin, though only using VMWare, since ReaStream doesn't seem to want to use the network to talk to different apps on the same machine. I imagine JACK would work better but I don't know how to pass MIDI over JACK - I think it can be done, but not sure how. |

A couple things. One, I have found Reaper to be incredibly unstable in general, particularly when messing around with virtual midi ports and stuff. It gets stuck easily into a wedged state. EnergyXT running on crossover never does that at all, period. The the problem is that EnergyXT does not have midi clock sync. So not ideal for Jamstix, but I use that for all the other win32 VST's I am running on crossover and it works great, no problems.
I was still able to get midi and audio working with Reaper.win32 and DP...and never crashed, ran fine for quite a while. But I was not using IAC, so maybe that is the problem. Try creating actual virtual midi ports. You can do that with Midi Patchbay and MidiPipe.
Midi cannot be passed on jack, jack is audio only.
As for ReaStream, if Reaper supports macs and PC's talking to each other over network, than that should actually work fine with VMWare in Bridged mode...though the performance may not be that great. Under crossover I don't think it would work unless you created more than one virtual network device and connected them that way somehow. I'm not sure if Crossover can have virtual network devices or not, ask them on their forum. if you can run Crossover in a "bridged" network mode, like you can vmware, then theoretically ReaStream might work. |

I finally did it, passing MIDI and audio over the network using the ReaStream plugin, both to a real PC and to a Virtual machine in VMWare Fusion. Jamstix plays on Windows, and passes the audio back to Mac, and it sounds really tight. Actually tighter than letting the audio play on the Windows machine, believe it or not! I tested with keyboard drumming from the Mac. No transport sync of course.
If anyone needs more details, I can work up something. |

| If the midi is being passed over ReaSync, then why can't sync be sent that way? |

It doesn't seem to pass more than note data, from what I can see. I tried to get any kind of peep out of the Cockos' people, but ReaSync seems to be an ugly hack to them. |

| is jamstix on the mac just wishfull thinking or is it actually in the pipeline. I have just totally swapped over to MAC and Jamstix is the only thing that I cant get to work on OSX, the workaround looks very usefull but as the author says it is a workaround and a bit klunky....I have enough technology/software getting inbetween me and music |

hi
if you use vm vare fusion and if you have extra usb midi interface you can install its drivers to vm and you can connect its output to to the main interface of the mac.if you have a multichannel audio interface you can assign the mac's daw master out to another channel other than first two1-2.by default vm ware is gonna use these two if your audio interface is mac's system's defualt interface.if your audio lets you route the system out as input in your mac daw ,you can record jamstix audio into your mac daw.with the usb interface you record the jamstix midi as well.to sync, your daw should be able to send midi clock to the midi out connected to the usb interface,on the receiving end(vm ware daw) you just need the live trial version that slaves to the midi clock.trial is save disabled but you can save your song with jamstix anyway.
peace

It is not wishful thinking but the pipeline is long. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

| crossover Games works better for now. Its not perfect. Sometimes it jams up. Reaper is less then steller under Crossover. We all await eagerly for Mac version of Jamstix. Until, read the guide at the start of this thread. It will work if you keep working with it until you get it working. |

How would I sync Logic with Reaper?
I managed to route the MIDI out of Reaper into Logic (simple IAC routing) and using Superior Drummer as VSTi but I cannot set Logic as slave or sync tempo/timeline.
Any ideas? Can Logic be set as MIDI sync slave?
Thx |

I tested it out (I'm definitely not a pro!) but it doesn't look like it's a VST wrapper as much as it is a VST host. It's basically Wine preconfigured for you.
It would be cool to have an AU that talks to this, though, it would just be an interim solution of course. |

whatīs about this idea??
installing "parallels" with a windows xp on the mac...
...install cubase with jamstix onto the virtual windows machine
configure cubase (win) as slave
configure logic 8 (mac) as master
and sync them somehow.....
would that be a possible solution? |
