Hi-

Some of the sounds in the SD2 kit are assigned to Jamstix percussion elements. I don't want any percussion to load automatically with this kit, since I'm using Jamcussion with the Latin Percussion EZx for percussion.

Did the original SD kit include those sounds? If not, I must have edited it at some point. Is there a way to get the original without re-installing?

And if they were there in the first place, how can I get rid of them or just make sure they're not used? It's confusing sometimes to hear the JS percussion sounds.

Also, is it legal to edit the Jamstix2\data\keys.txt file, or is that automatically re-created each time you load JS, even if you don't change any assignments? I'd like to change the individual percussion names to something more descriptive.

Thanks-

-Susan

You can remove JS sounds from the EZX kit by simply setting them to 'No Sound' or changing them to a EZX sound of your choice. Then save the kit and you're good to go.

Keys.txt is just a reporting file so changes made will not affect JS. You can't change the internal sound slot names of JS.

Hi Ralph-

I'm still struggling a bit with kits, but I did change the "Percussion" assignments to "No sound", and that fixed that. One thing I still don't understand is how to tell JS I want to add, say, a Tambourine to the arrangement.

Where do I do that in the Brain? I can assign it to one of the "Perc" sounds, but then it seems I have to assign the hits manually in the Bar editor. I think I was using "Modern" style with "Handy" at the time, and the 3rd percussionist wasn't doing anything so I thought I'd be able to tell JS to have him/her play the tambourine. I don't want to replace the existing 2 perc lines with tambourine.

Maybe I just need to read the docs again, but what's the easiest way to "build your own", and assign instruments to P1~3?

BTW, when I disconnect JS from SONAR's Synth Rack, all of its settings are lost, so I have to remember to save the song and kits beforehand. Not sure if this is a SONAR or JS thing.

Also, I know this has been mentioned and I think you said it will be addressed in JS3, but the GUI does definitely need to be larger, IMO! The Bar Editor in particular gets very hard to work with with so much information conveyed by such small icons.

Re changing the internal slot names: That would be very helpful, esp. with Jamcussion. Any possibility we'll see that in a future version?

Thanks!

The easiest way is via the brain menu, "Add" and then 'Connective Pattern'. Once this element is added to the brain, you can select the desired sound and pattern. You can also rename it to 'Tambourine' etc.

Yes, this will be addressed in JS3.

I'll see what we can do.
