This question is a bit out there:

Is there a way to have a bar with only 2 beats?
(in a 4/4 time signature)

Here's my situation:
I have a 2 beat bass line pre chorus intro (1/2 a bar).

I would like to start the chorus without this (as it is 4 bars even), and the verse is an even number of bars also.
(hope that makes sense)

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Paul

I guess another way of explaining this, is that I can't start the chorus with a kick on 1.
I'm working around it ok, but for the rest of the song, the kick is no longer 1/3 and snare no longer 2/4.

can you change the time sig in your host app?

change it to 2/4 for that measure only, then back to 4/4 for the rest of the song. i think JS would adjust to those instructions.

anyways, that's the first thing i thought of.

So far I haven't been able to get this to work quite right.

Is there another way I could do this?

If we were able to put in (.5) instead of a full bar (1) when building a song, that would help quite a bit.
Maybe in a future version??

Make sure "Allow Time Sig Changes" is checked in Jamstix Options. then you have to create a separate 1 bar - 1 rep part for that measure in the song sheet.

Thanks rcraig42, I'll dig around in the JS2 options and see if that is checked.
One bar will not do it though, I need something that will allow less then one bar. I run into this all the time when creating songs. Possible example is a sudden change in the song like entering the bridge after 1/2 a bar.

If the bar is set up as 2/4 in the Host, and you have the corresponding 1 bar part in jamstix at the same location, it will be 2/4, or "half a bar", or "2 beats".

The point is, you have to have a separate part in Jamstix for each different time signature.

Hey thanks rcraig42. I do have the 1 bar part set up in jamstix, but getting it right in my sequencer is a bit more tricky. I already have guitars, vocals, bass recorded in my sequencer, so if I start playing around with timeline, won't that throw that off? Not sure.

Also in the 1 bar 1 beat which I have separated, when you open that up, the bottom has 4 beat that looks like it could be changed to 1,2,3,4, but it is greyed out. I did select the "allow time signature changes".

Audio tracks should be unaffected by changes to the time signatures in the timeline. MIDI tracks may shift though, but that is usually a pretty easy fix if you have half decent MIDI editing functionality.

Most sequencers I have dealt with change the time signature for all following measures when you insert a time sig change, so you have to go to the next measure to change it back each time you want to do this.

You have to change the time signature in the host before jamstix realizes it is supposed be a 2/4 measure.

OK, I got it now. I only have audio in the sequencer beside Jamstix, and I'm using Samplitude 10 Pro (object oriented).
