I have a need to produce and extremely mellow and simple drum and percussion part, and having some troubles. Most especially that I don't want any snare hits in the fills. I tried with Charlie, and found that when I reduced the snare dials and ghost slider to zero, and maxed the toms dial, I got nothing but snare in the fills. even changing to Phil, I still get snare hits now and then.

Is there any way to prevent that? I thought reducing the dials should do it, but apparently not.

Also having trouble finding a percussion style that is both very basic and/or easy to adjust.

Funny you should mention that. I just figured it out today. On the fill page, slide it to style vs drummer. Charlie I guess likes snare. If it is all the way to style it will only play toms.

Okay, that doesn't explain why I still get snare hits with Phil, and putting the slider over to style is problematic because in one case I am using a fill at the end of a silent part.....

Unless I just found the use of the Intro part type. I can assign any style to it and still have nothing except a fill at the end of the part perhaps?

Open the Kit editor, click on the snare and load "No sound" into your snare slots (both right and left if necessary).

BTW, if you get Jamcussion you can substitute the percussionists for the "only toms" approach--sound really nifty! Very Happy

Hi-

I'd like to add a FR for some simpler styles. A lot of my songs are pretty "mellow", as the OP put it, and many times it would be easier for me to start with a simpler style and add to it, rather than subtracting/reducing elements.

I might be alone in this Wink, but my main gripe with many of the MIDI libraries out there (and I have lots!) is that they're just too busy, almost as if the drummer is taking center stage. It depends on the style of the music, obviously. For example, it's easy to find a straight rock pattern, but not so easy if you want a simple Latin percussion groove without it getting crazy. Too much salsa, much of the time!

I usually just end up programming my own drums, but I keep coming back to try JS for the same part, since it's such a great piece of software. I just wish there were some simpler styles as starters.

Thanks-

-Susan

We're working on improving the sound assignment in fills for the next Beta. Other than that I recommend setting the 'Overall' accent slider low or to none in both drum and percussion brain. Also, use 'Handy' for percussion.

I would also set the power knob to 70-80% to get a mellower overall sound.

Thanks, Ralph. I'll take your suggestions and look forward to the next Beta.
