What I'm thinking of is something for the situations in a song where you don't really want a fill, but instead a little accents at various points to match up with what one of the other instruments is doing. Instead of creating a named pattern that's only going to get used at one measure in the whole song, I envision being able to click on pattern and click "Customize" or something to that effect. I can then edit that pattern as I see fit at that one measure, and it will stay that way. It will either display with different color and/or an indicator like the fills, intros, etc. Alternatively, there could be a separate custom pattern lane in the arranger where all these customized patterns would collectively move to once they've been edited.

I think this could be especially helpful, versus the alternatives of creating named patterns or editing the MIDI output, for those songs that might benefit from a lot of these little accents, and just more convenient in general.

Hmm, wouldn't the bar locking suffice for that? I'd create my custom bar, then lock it and reuse the pattern slot for other rhythms.

Once we get the copy/paste function in the arranger done you could also copy/paste that bar to other places if need be.

Ralph,

The bar locking mechanism could certainly be used to implement the customized bars, but the workflow right now wouldn't be quite the same. Say I already have 24 bars of a certain pattern on the arranger. I want to customize bar 16, and leave the other 23 as they are. Unless I'm missing something, which is quite possible, right now, I'd have to change the pattern, then lock bar 16, and then change it back again so the other 23 bars would be back to the way they were. Or, alternatively, I could lock the other 23 bars and then change bar 16. Another possibility right now would be to to dedicate one row to customized patterns, but since I'd usually like to use one of my existing in-use patterns as a starting point, I would have to load the appropriate pattern into that row, then customize it, then lock it. However, what would be much more convienient would be if I could lock bar 16 of a particular pattern first, and then double-click on it and edit just bar 16. In other words, if locking prevented Jamstix from modifying the pattern, but still allowed me to modify it, without changing the other measures, that would make for a more efficient workflow for this kind of thing.

I see your point. Let us chew on it.

Ralph, make sure you put some stake sauce on it. It will taste better. Laughing

Thanks, I think this idea is really nice. Sometimes, doing thing that will smooth out the workflow is better. Specially if you got that inspiration flowing.
