I tried M$'s suggestion here:

Which of course does not install the executable it says I need. That, in a nutshell, is the main reason I don't use M$ (with the exception of audio). So, I don't know what happened, and I'm stuck with an installed application that I can't uninstall from the control panel. Windows sucks.
