Thanks for reading.
I'm trying to install jamstix 2. I am following the how to on my download page:
| Code: | Jamstix 2
STEP #1 - UNINSTALL DEMO VERSION
Uninstall the Jamstix 2 demo using the "Add/Remove Programs" feature of the Windows control panel
STEP #2 - PLUGIN DOWNLOAD
This file installs the Jamstix 2 VSTi plugin. Download and execute to perform the installation.
-----> Download Jamstix 2 (6MB)
STEP #3 - DRUM KIT DOWNLOAD
This will install the stock drum kit for Jamstix 2. Download, unzip and install using the "Install Pak" button in the Jamstix 2 kit screen.
-----> Download Stock Kit (86MB)
XL Pak Download and unzip all three files. Install each using "Install Pak" in the kit window of Jamstix 2.
-----> Download Part 1 (76MB)
-----> Download Part 2 (80MB)
-----> Download Part 3 (72MB)
Jamstix 2 Update Download and execute to update your installation.
-----> Jamstix 2.2.1 Update
Jamstix 2 Beta Download and replace your current jamstix2.dll with the version in this archive. Keep a backup of your current file!
-----> Beta 2.2.2 Beta 14 |
- I had no demo version
- I ran the exe installer, but it could not find a jamstix2 folder, and it wouldn't create it. Could go no further, so I exited the installer and manually created the folder, in the default specified (Program Files/jamstix2), and the installer complained about installing into the folder (which I did anyway, since it was empty). I then rebooted and started up my host (Cubase SX 2), in order to go to step 3. Unfortunately, there was no entry for jamstix2, only jamstix. So, I moved the jamstix2 dll into the correct folder, and when I rebooted & restarted the host, I saw the entry. I then tried to load jamstix2 to move on to step three, but I got an error message saying that it could not locate the jamstix2 data file. Well, I found it (Program Files/jamstix2/data) and specified it to the dialog box, but it persists in telling me that it can't find it. Can go no further.
What have I done wrong?
Thanks in advance,
Num |

The better way would have been to add the the Jamstix2 folder to the VST search path of Cubase versus manually moving the jamstix2.dll. I recommend you move the DLL back and then add the Jamstix2 folder to the Cubase search path. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

That's all it took apparently. Thanks again Ralph. I chose the VST plugin installation path and it went right in.
Why was the dll file in a separate zip file? Out of curiosity... |

There are 3 Jamstix 2 plugin links your download page:
1. 'Jamstix 2 Plugin' - jamstix2_setup.exe
This is the full installer and must be run to install Jamstix 2 initially.
2. 'Jamstix 2 Update' - jamstix2_upd_...exe
Not a full installer. Run this to upgrade an existing plugin to a newer version.
3. 'Jamstix 2 Beta' - jamstix2xxx.zip
This is a ZIP file with a beta version of the plugin DLL for manually placement. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Sounds like you used the Jamstix 1 ID and license key. Please use the Jamstix 2 ID and serial that came with your Jamstix 2 delivery email. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

So I awoke from my Rip Van Winkle and fired her up, to be greeted by this message again:
http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w147/numnutz6/jamstixProblem-crop.jpg
I just clicked "okay", and it seemed to load up. I moved nothing after the install, all I did was shut down and start up. What does it mean? I mean, with regard to install. Should I re-install? |

Thanks Ralph:
| Quote: | I HAVE JUST UPDATED JAMSTIX AND NOW IT SAYS "You need to run the latest Jamstix updater. If you have manually moved the data folder and/or DLLs before, you will need to manually move the updated files." BUT I NEVER MOVED THE DATA FOLDER.
You are probably running Vista and its user account control has kept the updater from fully doing its job. Please right-click on the Jamstix updater in the Windows explorer and choose 'Run As Administrator'. |
I'm not running Vista (2000 here - I'll never succumb to M$ above XP). I installed the application/updater using an Administrator account, and there is no "run as". So, I downloaded the ini file, and the message did not come back.
Thank you for everything, Ralph.

| I got a blue screen of death when I shut down the other day. I can't remember that ever happening before. What type of error messages do you suggest I look for? |

Blue screen of death is usually hardware or driver related. There should be a MiniDump file from the crash in the windows\minidump folder with more information. _________________ Ralph Zeuner
