|
|
Hi Ralph,
I have a problem with the snare velocity. Somehow the velocity is not constant. I've created a midi track from the Jamstix's midi output, and I can see most of the snares have the same velocity (113), but when I play it through Jamstix some can be loud, and some can be too low (at least for my taste).
If tried to set the min vol and max vol all the way to the right, but still, it's not constant. Actually I don't mind of not having the constant sound, BUT this difference is just too much.
Any solution for this? |

Try setting 'Snare Pwr Vary' in the 'Feel' section of the brain to zero. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Hi Ralph,
I'm now using Jamstix as a drum module (after exported the output to a midi channel and made some adjustments), so I don't think I can still adjust the brain control?
Is there any other way to control the velocity? |

That is quite odd. If the snares are at the same velocity and you are using the 'drum module mode' then the vol difference should be minimal and only due to alternate sample usage. Could you send me a brief MP3 that demonstrates the problem? _________________ Ralph Zeuner

I did receive the file. I'll get back to you as soon as I have researched this. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

The problem is due to alternate hits. The snare in question has alternate samples with varying stick position on the snare head. Off center hits yield more ringing and less volume at the same stick speed as center hits.
The next update will add control over the use of alternate hits in the groove aspect via the drummer model. That won't help in the 'drum module mode' though since JS2 cannot determine if an incoming MIDI note is a groove or fill note. Fill notes need the alternate hits to avoid machine gun effects.
You may want to put the snare on its own output and put some compression on it either in JS2 or the host side. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Silly questions:
can you make it to be controllable by a midi controller?
More like what you did with hi hats and controller #4? That way user can gain more detailed control over the sound.
Or can it be made so there's an option somewhere to control how much the allowed alternation (thus it will affect the drum module too)? For example, the allowed alternation is 100% (it is as it is now), or allowed alternation is 50% so the difference will not be that much.
The current problem is not only the velocity is too different, but the hit character is a bit difference as well, it's like that the drummer looses his hit energy or something - which seems good, as it is natural, but if you can't control that at all, well that's the problem I have now.
I understand that you can make up the velocity problem with compressor, but I don't think compressor can help with the hit character.
Those are just my inputs regarding this problem, hopefully one of them is make sense.
I'm producing a song here that is finished, so it's very troublesome if I have to change to another drum solution and start the drum track all over again. |

I'll see what we can do about a VST automation parameter to control the alternate hit usage. I'll send you a test Build as soon as we have something ready. _________________ Ralph Zeuner
