|
|
Hi there
Lately I've been having problems with cracks or pops when using jamstix in reaper (v. 2.51). It seems like the sample (mostly snares I think) isn't loaded correctly. It will play, but often with a small crackling sound at the end.
Closing reaper and re-opening the song doesn't help. Once its there I have to change to another kit and then back to the original (at least it seems like this helps), but its an error that isn't easy to reproduce so I could be wrong here.
I first noticed it on a song with loads of tracks n' FX's, but now it occured on a completely new song as well with only a midi cuetrack and jamstix it self. Its also there if I render the song - same place each time.
I think my system is fast enough. ASIO drivers, Motu pre8, 2 gb ram, Athlon 64 2X 4200 and plenty of recently defragmentet harddrive space. Its been running fine ever since I got jamstix 2 last year, so I dont think CPU power or poor soundcard is the reason.
I'm guessing the error could be one of following, but I don't know anything about the "core" of jamstix so...
1. For some reason jamstix doesnt load the sample "completely".
2. A recent upgrade of Reaper could be incompatible with jamstix
3. A recent upgrade of jamstix (2.2.2 beta 3)
4. Errors in my ram (I put in a new 1gb block a few months ago).
What do you think? I hope some one would be able to help... |

Please use 2.2.2 beta 14 and see if it makes a difference. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

update:
I tried loading my favorit kit (Jamstix 2 - hard) and clicking on the different drums. Sure enough - hitting the edge of the snare produced a pop at the end of each sample. At the center of the snare it sounds fine. For the snare I got:
snare left: snare - 14" metal
snare right: (--nothing--)
snare side: snare sidestick - 14" metal
snare bounce: snare bounce - 14" metal
snare rimshot: snare rimshot - 13" JS2 craviotto
snare brushing (--nothing--) |

| hmm... it seems like its only 14" metal that's a problem. All other snares sounds fine. Cant remember if 14" metal is a part of the snare pack or one of the others I got. Wich one should I re-install? (assuming that could solve the problem). I think I lost the install file for stock drum kit for jamstix 2 and my download link has expired. |

This is very odd. I can't duplicate the problem here with Beta 14, REAPER 2.52 and the 14" Metal snare at all. Please see if increasing your ASIO latency makes any difference. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

I tried increasing latency from 256 to 512 but no difference
I would like to try to re-install that sample in question, but I seem to have lost the original installation file. Is it possible for you to re-activate my download link for my stock kit for jamstix 2? What information do you need from me to do that?
Thanks in advance |

The 14" Metal snare is actually from the Jamstix 1 stock kit. Please e-mail or PM me your name/e-mail used to order JS and I will renew your links. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

I quit... I think Having re-installed everything and still no joy. My favorite snare still has a snap at the end. Actually it sounds like when a waveform is cut at a non-zero value. You can have a listen of whats going on here: http://www.nigo.dk/junk/14metalsnare.wav
I don't think its a latency issue. The above recording was made by midi-triggering the sample and letting reaper render the track. As you'll notice not every velocity layer seems to have the snap.
Anyway, a question: if I choose install pack in jamstix 2 and the pack is already installed, will it overwrite the old files? If not then that's the reason why a re-install doesnt help I guess.
On the positive side - just got the Bonzo pack - great work |

Yes, this is definitely not a latency issue. This is a 'fast drop' click noise where the voice generator cuts off while the signal level is still too high. I cannot produce this behavior here but I may have a work-around: Increase the DMP knob on the 'Snare Left' until the click is gone. _________________ Ralph Zeuner
