Try setting the trigger key an octave higher or lower and see if it works then. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

|
|
Ralph --
I've had some weirdness lately with Jamstix routing in reaper. When I select "build multichannel routing" for 8 stereo track outs, I get a weird deal where the L side of channel 2 (the snare sound) is routed both to the L/R snare tracks (proper) and the L side of the kick track. Kick track otherwise works properly.
I double checked the routing map in Reaper and pulled up the I/O for all sends and receives into and out of the kick and snare tracks, and it's like there's some sort of invisible snare send (left side only) going to the kick drum that I can't seem to get rid of.
Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
Cheers,

Make sure 'Downmix' is off in the JS2 mixer. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

i'm a jamstix beginner with quite a few questions, but i'll ask just one for now.
how do i get js to play along with my guitar?
i can get it to play a beat but not in time with what i'm playn, just plays random stuff. i was under the impression that js can play along with u in real time.
i'm using the line 6 toneport ux2 with gearbox if that helps any.
any help is greatly appreciated, thanks

Jamstix is always synched to the host. Some hosts have tempo extraction tools that can be used to adjust the tempo to an audio signal. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

There is a great REAPER forum here http://forum.cockos.com where you can get help/advice on using REAPER. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

If so here's how you can get JS2 to work simply (no multi output or anything. once you get this going, go to the Reaper forums and Multi out VSTi's are explained there and there are also some Jamstix multi pout templates you can use.
1. Start REAPER
2. Load up the BradSucks demo
3. Insert a new track at the bottom
4. Click on the fx button of your new track and add Jamstix 2
5. JS2 should open with the quickstart menu. select "Jam Session Rock" (you can choose any really, but this works ok, the electronic one suits pretty cool too)
6. Press play in Reaper and JS2 should be playing along with the song.
You can mute the drum group (track 7) and you can hear JS2 only providing the drums.
Now at the moment JS2 is not jamming to the audio, just to the tempo of the song.
If you want to jam to audio, insert audioM8 on the bass track (you can add it to any audio track, but the bass track is the one that plays through the whole song) and then change JS2 from "Jam - No Input" to "Jam - with audio".
You might need to adjust the input level trim to the right of the jam mode selection to your taste.
Also with jamming to audio it might be better to do a mixdown of the song and then get JS to jam to that rather than just 1 track of the song so you get the dynamics of the whole song and not just the 1 track.

Thank you for this helpful post. I was having trouble getting Jamstix to respond to audio input, not knowing that I had to add AudioM8 as an FX to the audio track, or that Jamstix, if I understand this correctly, detects M8 automatically.
Anyway, I had fun with the Brad Sucks track, and then I tried the audio input on a drum loop. Result?
Now I can take any audio drum loop, get Jamstix to feed off it and generate another drum loop. I can choose whether to keep the original or drop that and be left with the entirely new rhythm - which I can then play with different Jamstix kits, styles and drummers. Amazing software.
And sub-hosting the Addictive Drums demo is a lot of fun.
Thanks again for the post. The manual is reasonably clear, but I think it suffers from not having a "walkthrough" of a project so the user can be led through the different techniques. More Youtube videos, please, Ralph! |

However, into each life a little rain must fall.
Ralph, sometimes Jamstix forgets its settings in Reaper. I can open up a project and the kit, style and drummer have disappeared.
Drummers, you see - you can never rely on 'em... |

I've tried to figure that one out but so far I don't know why. Since it only happens in REAPER, it must be something host-specific. Until we figure it out, I recommend keeping revisions via the disk icon in JS2 so you can reload quickly if this happens. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Oh, that's a pity. I may start a thread in Reaper's "Compatibility" forum and get Justin on the case.
I'm afraid I don't understand your "keep revisions via the disk icon on JS2" advice, Ralph. Pretend you're talking to a child. |

We'll have a Beta 2.5.1 soon which may fix this problem. Until then, use the disk icon in the middle of JS2 to save copies of your project. It also does that automatically based on the time set in the 'Options'. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

ah. I though the disk icon was temporary saves for an "undo like" function (and a limited amount of saves). I've been using the Save Song and that seems to work for now. thanks! |
