|
|
I've got a song in 12/8. I've used the 6/8 blues style but it is hopelessly out of sync with the bar structure of the song. ( It sounds like it is playing in 4/4). When I look at the time signature that Jamstix is working from it says 12/8! What do I need to do to get this working properly?
In one of the bars I want to have drums until the mid-point of the bar then silence for the rest of the bar. Do I have to put in two bars of 6/8 (one played, one silent) in my host, by allowing time signature changes then come back to the 12/8 time signature? In another 12/8 bar I want it played for half the bar, silent for a quarter of the bar and a drum fill across the last quarter of the bar. How do I do this?
Thanks |

| First, make sure you've set 'allow time sig changes' in Jamstix's options. Then make sure your host is in the desired time signature for those bars. |

Unless you actually have a change of time signature within your song, you do not need to 'allow time sig changes'. Instead, just make sure you find a style that fits your needs. Jamstix 2 will automatically pick up the 12/8 from your host and the bar editor should show 12 8th notes per bar. Try using the '6/8 Rock' style or anything else until you find something that you like (you can use 'Preview' in the style load dialog).
If you don't see 12 8th notes in the bar editor, use 'Reset Song' in the song menu. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Thanks for the reply. I've now got the 12/8 showing in the bar editor, but whatever style I use I'm getting 3 snare hits across a bar in odd places! I'd expected a "standard" 12/8 snare pattern with hits on beats 4 and 10 in the bar. I guess I'll have to programme that manually.
I still don't know how to get the parts of a bar playing, being silent, then an end of bar fill across beats 10, 11 and 12, that I mentioned previously. Do I need to programme this manually, or set a fill and then take parts of it out if necessary?
What's the best way to go about this?
thanks |

The problem is the groove weights. Please save this file to the 'data\groovemaps' folder of your Jamstix 2 folder. Now load your song and choose 'Load' in the groove weight sub menu of the song menu and select the 12-8th file. You will see the groove weights in the bar editor change the way you want it with that 6/8 feel. Hit COMP to force a recomposition and all should be well.

I'd manually take out what I don't want and then lock the bar(s). _________________ Ralph Zeuner

thank you very much for creating this. My music computer isn't connected to the internet so I copied the file onto a CD to transfer to my music computer. When I copied it into the groovemaps folder I could see it as a html file. When I tried to load the groove weights into the songI couldn't see the 12-8ths file as it wasn't a j2d file. I don't know how to make the file you created into a j2d file. If there is an easy way to do this I'm sorry for my ignorance but I'm not very knowledgeable about computers!
What should I do? |

Please rename the file extension from html to j2d and it will work fine. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

I've done this and can see the renamed file in my groovemaps folder when looking under "My Computer" but it is not there when I try and load the grooveweights from within the Song tab in Jamstix. I can see all the other j2d files but not the 12-8th one even though I know it is in that folder!
I am still getting the warning message about needing to install the latest Jamstix updater etc. I have had this ever since I installed Jamstix. But I am not running Vista and Jamstix has been working fine. Is this something to do with it?
Thanks |

Sorry but there isn't a rzdlog.text file in the Jamstix 2 folder. There is the dll; audiom8 dll; ini file; license file; revisions file; exe file and readme.txt file.
Should I be looking somewhere else for it? |

Please do a 'Search' for rzdlog.txt and see where it is found. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

I don't know why it hasn't come through. I just clicked on the e-mail link in your posts on the forum. I didn't know how to attach documents to the forum posts. I've sent it again to the same e-mail address just now. |
