Ralph... I know this should be simple but maybe I'm just not used to the way the sequencer is set up in the Rhythm tab. I'm trying to program a simple beat and I'm having trouble with the kick rhythm. I have straight quarter notes, 1-2-3-4, on the hi-hat... no problem; snare quarter hits on the 2 and 4... no problem. What I want on the kick, I can't get it to do it:

On the downbeat of 1 and 3, I want two sixteenth hits on the kick. That's it. But I can't make it do it. Would this be considered "double-kick" perhaps?

Thanks,

You can mark the 16th Before or the 16th After boxes for 1 and 3 to do that, depending on whether you want the 16th to follow or preceed.

Your issue may be the velocity adjustment that Jamstix performs to keep single kick realism?

Thanks for the quick reply as always... I've tried all the 16th combinations, believe me.

But I need BOTH 16th notes on downbeat of beat 1. I can't get it to do that with only before and after options. I played with the velocity of the kick hits and that didn't help.

Another way to look at what I'm trying to do for the kick is if you divided each of the 4 beats of the measure into 4 16th pieces, say a,b,c, & d, I'm looking for kick hits on a & b of beats 1 and 3. I certainly wouldn't consider this outside 'kick realism' at all. I guess the easiest example I could give you is Zeppelin's 'Kashmir. I believe that he's doing exactly what I'm looking for (on the kick anyway).

If you're still unsure, let me know and I'll see if I can throw a quick 5-second mp3 together in another sequencer.

Thanks!

Yes, that would be helpful

We just released the X3-10 beta which has a checkbox in the kick panel to allow for double-kick play.

Let me know if this helps.

But that would be
1 and the 16th after one
and
3 and the 16th after three...

Or am I missing something?
Confused

Ralph, I just downloaded X3-11 and now I can get it to do it! Many thanks!

The Kick pattern I wanted is now achieved by enabling the "Allow Double" box, and marking 'Quarter' and '16th after' hits for beats 1 and 3.

Doc, what you mentioned doesn't achieve what I was looking for because I needed a double hit on the downbeat of the 1. The 'allow double' feature now allows that.

Thanks again Ralph!

Ralph... the Allow Double feature was the final touch I needed for this to be the perfect program for me. I'll now be purchasing it. Many thanks again!
