I have some loops I want to convert from sound files to midi so that I can edit them in JS. I know it's possible to do this but I don't know how. Can anybody tell me the best way?

In general, you can't do this.

Wav files are audio, midi files represent a contol protocol that tells an audio engine what noise to produce and when.

If the audio source is monophonic, then you have a fair chance of converting it to a midi file. However, once the source is polyphonic, all bets are off.

You'll find plenty of softwares claiming the ability to convert polyphonic audio files to midi, but I can assure you none of them can actually do it.

also, while I have this question out, is there an easy way to control velocity rather than hand tweaking for each hit? For instance, if I want to raise or lower the velocity for the snare or hi hat across the entire part, or song, is there a fast way to do that?

I am using a silent style so the brain elements aren't available.

The Kit Editor...I have the kit open and the only thing I can figure out is to click on the velocity map...what should I do to change the velocity for the whole part. I see a minimum and maximum volume control, both at twelve o'clock...

Also, is there a way to copy and paste just one limb from a bar rather than the whole bar? I want to be able to cut and paste the hi hat into several bars without erasing the rest of the bar.

Try the 'Compressed' and the 'Expanded' button in the velocity map. This will give you a good idea how the curve effects velocity response. Also, you can just reduce the volume with the VOL knob in the kit editor and see if that sounds better.
