Here is what I see in the debug logging output when trying to load Jamstix2 into EnergyXT within Wine (using the commercial "CrossOver Mac 6.2.1" product):

| More progress. I have been able to get jamstix2 working under OSX using a slightly different producted called "CrossOver Games" which has DX emulation and other stuff. Not sure if that is the only difference, but I was able to start the Jamstix2 GUI under EnergyXT, so I have progress. I will try to figure out what is different. |

Well I can't get Jamstix2 to work at all with "CrossOver Mac", but it does work with "CrossOver Games". I don't know of all the differences. One is that crossover Games includes emulated DirectX functionality. But it probably is providing other support, such that Jamstix2 works, but I have no idea what. Anyway, it works. more info about that product can be found here for anyone interested:
http://www.codeweavers.com/products/
The only thing I have found so far that doesn't quite work right is in the Options dialog of Jamstix2, when I try to select the dropdown menu for the skins, the list of skins is hidden behind the dialog itself. i can just barely see the last skin name peeking out from behind the dialog at the bottom. If I select this field and use the up/down arrow keys I can select a different skin, but interestingly, doing this seems to crash Jamstix entirely. So just sticking with the default skin for now...which works and I have been able to mess around with it, hear drums and it all sounds tight and everything. Using JackOSX the audio is easily piped into other programs.
In the future I may try the free version of Darwine, which supposedly is always a little ahead of the commercial version...but not as stable. The Games version of crossOver is also supposed to be a little ahead of the Mac version, but less stable. The free version might work absolutely fine and its free! I need to try it out.
In any case, I just wanted to report that Jamstix is now working on OSX here for me using Crossover Games. |
