It remains a mystery to me what all the pretty colored things are for in the Toms Panel at the far right.

i.e. flam, etc.

what are they for? what do they do? does one use them somehow???

tried to find out about them in the manual but don't see specifics for them...... please clue me in... Rolling Eyes

In manual jam with any given rhythm you can right click on the hits in the toms panel, and drag left or right (I think - I'm not at my music machine right now) to change the style of hit. The colour is the key to see what style you've got. The flams do sound quite good.

Cheers,
Johnny

The colors represent different types of strokes.

Single - just a single tom hit

Flam - the single tom hit is followed very quickly by another hit (about a 32nd later)

Pre-16th - the single tom hit is preceded by a hit of lower velocity a 16th earlier.

Post-16th - the single tom hit is followed by a hit of lower velocity a 16th later

Pre&Post 16th - both of the above

Triplet In - the single hit is preceded by two notes of lower velocity and forms a triplet

Triplet Out - the single hit is followed by two notes of lower velocity and forms a triplet

These variants allow you to program complex tom patterns.

Hope this helps

PS: If you look at the library rhythms with the key words 'lots of toms', you will see several examples that use tom variants.

Zauni... I understand what the names mean and that there are colors associated to each stroke... what I don't get how you get those various strokes into the Toms... It must be too obvious cuz I can't see it...

Max,

If you left click at a spot on the toms grid, you'll activate a hit or remove it (green light on/off).

Once you've got one (ie green light on), I think you right click it, and drag left or right to scroll through the hit types. If it's not exactly that, then it's something like that (up/down does velocity BTW).

Cheers,
Johnny L

yes, thanks I understand about the various 'shades' of green in the Toms... I guess I somehow imagine that one could set that green to one of the other colors... drag a color over there, rt clk a color, etc... in other words something in the Toms hits that would indicate if you have one of the special strokes turned on... but I don't get any color 'cept green...

what am I doing wrong?

Max, you have to right-click on your (initially green) tom hit and drag the mouse down at the same time. You´ll see the clolour of the hit changing.

well guys thanks for the 'tips'.... I finally found it....

but since no one mentioned it directly, maybe I should say it out loud?...

I already know about holding the rt mouse down and dragging up and down to change the color from light to dark... however what I was asking about was how to control the 'stroke' type... i.e., single, flam, triplet out... etc. OK so it is done with a rt mouse on the same place BUT dragging the mouse left and right, then you can see the colors changing, not just the shade of the color... Cool Smile

at last... all is clear!!!! wowzies... sweet as pi in the sky!
