Ableton Live 6.0.10 Korg edition.
I've got 4 scenes.
There's a midi lane.
In scene 1 I insert a midi track, and set it to send program change 1.
In scene 2 ... Program change 2
In scene 3 ... Program change 3
In scene 4 ... Program change 4
I insert Jamstix, and set the "Liveloops" button.
I start Ableton Live, jamstix starts playing part 1.
I then click to scene 3 - jamstix switches to part 3. Great.
I then click back to 1, jamstic switches - great - looks to be following program changes,
but if I just let ableton to continue to play, Jamstix will move onto part 2, then part 3, part 4 all by itself. Reading the manual it looks like it shouldn't. It should just stay on the current part until a program change is sent? |

The manual is incorrect on this point. Parts will advanced in liveloop mode. If you don't want that then set the part reps to 200 or so. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

I did a test and I got Ableton to record JS midi out. Then what I did, was to put JS as a drum module only and it seemed to have recorded everything. The only thing is that the sound sounded really digital, I dont know how to explain it, but it sounded like lower quality. Then when I returned to having JS playback the song from within itself, it sounded realistic again like it originally did.
I havent tried the latest beta will tonight and post my finding. I find it easier to do everything in JS anyways, but still i would love to have everything recorded in Live better. _________________ Musikman

Hi Ralph,
I have some problems using Js2 (2.2.1) in Live7 (7.0.5):
-When I put JS2 in a midi track, JS2 needs about 10 seconds to appear normally, there's a kind of second screen around JS2 and what's written in the song sheet isn't readable.
It's just not aesthetic to see.
-When I work on a song with multi tracks, I always need to have JS2 open, I mean I must see JS's screen or the drum part doesn't start. When I mix a song and want to change something in a guitar track for example, I always must go back to JS track and to have it in front of my eyes when I start to play the song or I don't hear any drum part while playing the song. It's always annoying because I can't focus on my guitar part only and I need to think about JS. This problem is the same in both Live screens, Session or Arrangement.
-When I edit a bar in my drum part, if I want to delete a kick for example, I need to do an half circle with my cursor to go to the delete button or I hear each element of the drum if I go straight from the bar editor to the delete button (or copy/move or velocity). What I hear reminds me when I played drum, I mean I'm a very bad drumer! So isn't it possible to put what's at the top of the bar editor (delete, copy/move and velocity) to the bottom of the bar editor (near priority, timing and locked)? It could help to be faster with the cursor instead of doing an half circle until the top of the bar editor, just to not hear each drum element playing together. This last point isn't about JS2 and Live but I prefer to write it here, I only have these three bad points with JS2, but a lot of pleasure and fun!
I didn't read all this thread so I'm sorry if I talk about problems that are already resolved.

Philippe,
Issue #1: That is an abnormally long initialization time. Please send me the file rzdlog.txt from your Jamstix 2 folder for review.
Issue #2: That is a Live habit of silencing plugins that it deems to be idle and that do not have their window open. The solution is to put a note of zero velocity at the start of the track that Jamstix is on.
Issue #3: UNcheck 'Auto Audit Sounds' in 'Options' and you won't hear the drums anymore when the mouse moves over them. Also, instead of using the 'Delete' button, drag an empty cell onto the one to delete, which is much faster. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

| Live 7.0.7 on Windows XP Pro: Jamstix is slaved to Live's transport and tempo, which means I can only affect how it plays by volume dynamics of the audio input, and only after pressing play in Live? |

Okay, thanks. In another host, would I be able to affect the tempo? As it works within live, jam sessions take on a pretty rigid character when only the volume is dynamic. |

You'd need a host that allows real-time tempo extraction from an audio signal. I am not sure if there is one that does that (and reliably). _________________ Ralph Zeuner

I'm using Jamstix 2 with Live 6.10 and I want to take the MIDI output from Jamstix and record it to a track in Live.
I routed the MIDI from the Jamstix track to a second track, armed the second track and hit record. I heard playback from the Jamstix track but when I checked the recorded MIDI track there were no notes.
What do I need to do to record the MIDI out from Jamstix? |
