Hi all,
1st time poster. Been using Jamstix since version 1. But I've never really tried to do anything really clever with it, but I'm having a red hot go at the moment as I'm recording/producing a singer who needs real rock & roll sounding drums. I usually program midi with a sampler or just drag wav files onto the grid in Reaper to get my house beats. Anywho... back to the r&r drums. I'm trying to get more control over Jamstix but there are a few simple things that have me stumped (using 2.2.0 by the way).
1. I've tried to put in a few drum hits of my own into a Part, now all of the groove controls have disappeared (accent and fill are still there). Did I just put in too many of my own beats and Jamstix said, "OK you're now on your own boy... show us your stuff!!!" lol Also the cursor flickers like mad over the blank area until I select another song part.
2. The Power knob.... any chance I can set this for different song parts. It would make life sooooo..... soo... much easier if I could just crank the power knob for the Chorus etc. I'm using JS in Jam-No Input mode as I'm trying to work out how to get consistent drum sounds for the various song parts.
3. OK here is a bit that bugs me. So I've pretty much setup my song, parts, drummer, style etc but as I add more instruments/vox etc to the track I begin to loose the nice natural drum sound in the mix. Now I spend lots of time EQing individual kick/snare/etc on individual tracks while mixing, but call me the wild man of rock and roll, I've thought.. I wonder if a different snare/kick.. perhaps a whole different kit would sound with better with the full mix???? So I go to Kit/Load/Preview and I find that very few of the actual kits actually play. Most are missing hats, or snares etc... So I can't get to preview a new kit.
Anywho... these are probably the most noob questions and easily answered by those in the know. But I will say this. I love Jamstix. It's enabled me to fool more than I few people that I have a real great sounding kit ... lol Many thanks |

| Don't know why I didn't think of that, but there it was... automation for the Power knob... wonderful. That's one thing sorted |

Can you send me a screenshot of that situation?

Jamstix 2 standard comes with one kit only. The kits you see require the XL version of Jamstix, which comes with several new kits. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

I've seen this one too, minus the cursor flickering. Usually if you switch to another part or to the accent or fill tab then come back to it, it is there again. It happens randomly though, I don't really know how to reproduce it. |

Thanks for your answer,
I've been unable in my quick little test to reproduce the missing groove controls but if it happens again I will grap a screen grab. As far as I undertand I bought all of the kits that were available for version 2. Here's a couple of screen grabs. Is there some ini file that will tell me if I've correctly installed all the packs? The missing kit parts error is easy to dublicate. While Jamstix is playing, and I'm on the kit screen with preview selected and I select the "Big Kit" everything plays. If I select "Fat" I'm left with only the snare playing. Perhaps I've installed the kits incorrectly or perhaps I have to buy more or upgrade???? Hopefully the screen grabs will tell you something. Many thanks

Actually, you do have all the sounds so you do NOT need to upgrade. The problem is audio outputs. The 'Fat' kit (and some others) use multiple audio outputs and, depending on your host, you must enable those outputs in your host to hear them.
In REAPER 2 this is done by right-clicking on the JS2 entry in the FX window and choosing the item to create outputs. Alternatively, you can use the 'Downmix' button in the JS2 mixer to have all outputs merged onto #1. _________________ Ralph Zeuner
