I have a question regarding the behavior of the new bar locking feature. Is it the intended behavior that when a particular bar is locked that the midi data of the bar still gets modified? I thought that when a bar is locked, the midi data is supposed to be preserved. However, what I see/hear is that the vertical position of the bar (i.e. the 1 of 16 Jam Parts) is the only thing that is preserved/locked.

Thanks for the clarification!

The bar position and choice data is locked but if you do something that alters the pattern/rhythm of that slot then it will be altered. We're chewing on this and that's why it is still very beta.

Just released X3-10 with much better bar locking. Jamstix now stores the produced MIDI data when a bar is locked. From that moment on, even if the pattern changes, the content of the bar will not change.

This can be used in very creative ways...

Ralph can you explain how if the pattern changes the content of the bar won't change???

Wouldn't changing the pattern change when the kick, snare etc. are played?
And whether it was HH or ride?

I don't quite get it...

thanks,
Rich

This is how it works: when a bar is played (and not locked), Jamstix stores information about what sounds it played in an internal buffer. When you lock the bar, Jamstix will always playback that buffer instead of the normal "thinking" for the bar. So you can change settings and patterns to your hearts content but the locked bar stays the same.
