Hi All
Just done a simple backing track for a blues guy and using JS 2.2 but right from the start(drum track) I've been getting a regular stutter and a message from SL3 saying "CPU overload/Audio dropout detected". He wont be a happy bunny if it keeps hiccupping when he's trying to lay down his earth-shattering guitar part!
I ran the song through a few times and checked the Performance tab in Task Manager but it never peaked above 10% and only one of the 2 cores showed any activity. I guess this seems to suggest Audio dropout rather than CPU overload?
I don't recall this happening before JS2 and Cubase has been rock steady but obviously I'm not pointing any fingers at this stage, maybe it's just a coincidence as I'm only just getting to grips with the upgrade to JS2. Perhaps I've accidently changed something?

Can anyone help with ideas please?

The setup is:
Latency - 6.5ms (tried messing with this)
44.1k/24Bit
Audio priority - high (tried messing with this)
2 seconds of audio preload (tried messing with this)
1 instance of Nubile
I instance of 4Front Piano
1 instance of Classic Reverb
Real audio Bass guitar
JS2

That's quite odd. Please send me the file rzdlog.txt from the Jamstix2 folder for review.

Also, try moving the voice reduction slider in the mixer up and see if it makes a difference.

Cheers Ralph
Thanks for the quick reply. I need to get back to my DAW so might take an hour or two but will get back.

P.S. Afterthought - I also had some wierd things with the mouse pointer being flickering between the pointer and the egg timer at times?

I doubt this is Jamstix's fault- most likely your soundcard's audio buffer size (might also be referred to as 'latency') is set too low. The lower the buffer size, the less audio data your system can pre-cache, and the more processing power is needed. If it exceeds what your cpu can handle, it will start dropping out. 6.5ms latency is fairly low and Jamstix does use a fair bit of cpu power (plus the other plugins you're running), unless you have a powerful rig and good soundcard with ASIO drivers you'll probably need to raise this.

Ralph - I've mailed you the rdzlog.

dysfunction - thanks for the response.

The buffer size was the first thing I checked out as I know how important an issue this is and I tried 12ms but there was no difference. This wasn't the usual pop and click thing, more of a hesitation as though something was interrupting the data flow or the operation of the host. My system is completely dedicated to audio with no internet and optimised XP and is usually OK at 6.5ms unless I'm mixing with loads of plugins.
I've a feeling you're right when you say it's not Jamstix but, as it was doing it from the very beginning with only JS2 loaded and the first real run with JS2(.2), I thought this might be a factor.
I still wonder if I've accidently changed something in the Cubase setup (there are so many options and preferences scattered around the different menus) so I'm going to check it out again this morning and see.

We did various changes in the audio engine in JS 2.2 to improve cymbal washes and other special situations and overhauled parts of the voice reduction. So it is possible that some of these changes trigger your symptoms. We didn't have any performance issues on any of our test machines but it is still possible. I will research the log and get back to you.
