JS2 should definitely advance as Sonar plays. Please send me a screenshot of your project with the JS2 GUI open and Sonar playing.

By the way, MIDI Output in the demo is limited to kick drum so all notes will be played as kicks.

Thanks Ralph. I'm aware of the kicks. That's cool - I just wanted to make sure I can make it work at all.

I just edited my previous post with some more details. I got it working one project but not another. I'm going to compare the two now and report back.

One more question:

Is the ability to insert a kick and snare pattern in JS2 exclusive to the MetalPak?

If you have a 2.2 Beta then you can add kick/snare controls via the brain menu (under the lightbulb) using Add->Add Classic Kick/Snare Controls to any style. You may need to disable the kick/snare controls of the style by left-clicking on their names if they collide.

Sounds good. I'm really interested in actually entering my own kick and snare notes in a JS2 pattern, which is what makes the MetalPak very attractive to me.

I'm feeling good enough about using the product successfully now that I will likely be purchasing JS2 plus MetalPak today.

Do you get a different JS2 DLL if you buy MetalPak than if you get just JS2? Just curious as to what actually adds the ability to click kick and snare notes into a pattern.

Thanks again Ralph!

It's the same DLL. The additional features of the MetalPak are contained in the MetalPak style and drummer files.

Excellent.

I think I figured out the issue.

Apparently, if there are no audio tracks in Sonar with Jamstix set as the input, the brain doesn't seem to engage.

I had initially loaded my EZDrummer DLL within J22, and it was not playing, but I had not let Sonar insert any audio tracks for JS2 when I added it to the project.

Once I added an audio track with the JS2 as the input, the brain engaged and started jamming either in MIDI Only mode or using the DLL through JS2.

I'm guessing JS2 must be detecting whether or not Sonar has an audio track for it, and if not, doesn't jam?

Interesting stuff for sure!

Yes, you need to have an audio track for JS2 or Sonar won't send song position information to JS2, which is needed for synching.
