|
|
Don't know why I can't get this to work. Seems like a simple thing.
- I am using Reaper
the effects on the track in question are in this order:
1. KT DrumTrigger
2. JS
I have the record input set to : record MIDI output. (I have also tried all other options)
- I want to input audio (real snare) and send it through KT Drum Trigger to trigger a midi output. Then have the midi from KT Drum Trigger play sounds in JS. This much is successful. I have JS in Drum Module mode, and I can trigger the snare in JS with KTDrum Trigger sending it mdi note # 38. I can hear the audio output from JS.
I am unable to record the mdi output of JS to the track in Reaper. When I load a song in JS and press record in reaper it will record the midi output from JS. However using drum module mode, the midi data gets to JS and triggers the sound, but the midi data is not outputed to the track in question.
What am I missing here? How do I use JS in drum module mode and record its midi output?

Jamstix 2 does not do 'MIDI thru', which is what you'd need. The biggest reason is the danger of MIDI feedback loops, which we encountered plenty of with JS1 when it did MIDI thru. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

| Just conceptualizing here, not sure how reaper or KT would handle it, but couldn't you set up KT to output MIDI to a different track, and setup that seperate track to feed JS, turning on input echo (or its reaper equivalent) while recording? |

| Thinking some more, I believe I use MIDI Yoke so much I take it for granted, that is, you may need a virtual MIDI cable/interface such as MIDI Yoke to do what I'm talking about. |

I find it odd that JS cannot pass the midi through to the host in drum module mode, but I am not a programmer and don't understand the problems inherent in that.
My solution is to set up another track with the KT Trigger only and feed the same signal to it as to the track with JS. This way I can here what I am triggering on the track with JS and then record the midi to the addtional track. Easy workaround, it seems. I could probably have JS on that track as weel and just mute it. When I want to hear the record midi data, I just need to turn on JS.

It's not that JS2 cannot do it technically. It is very easy to do. The problem is that there are hosts out there (such as Cubase) that often default MIDI inputs and outputs of tracks so that there is a feedback loop. The fact is that 99% of our users never have a need to have MIDI passed through by JS2 in drum module mode. It was a better tradeoff to skip this than to have 20 to 30% of our users getting annoyed by CPU-killing MIDI feedback loops. _________________ Ralph Zeuner
