Some "custom groove" related questions:

- Is there a metronome function when working in preview mode?
- Can I loop more than one bar with preview mode?
- I like to build a simple one or two bars groove with only kick and snare and then let JS2 take care of the rest. What I can do now is to "paint" the groove, save (one or more) bar, add a groove importer (in custom rock preferably) etc. Works fine but I'd like to
a) be able to lock my kick and snare hits (talking about groove, not accents nor fills of course)
b) use the learn function instead of "painting" the groove with the mouse (I can't hear my keyboard hits when in "jam-no input" mode. works only in"jam with midi input" mode?)
c) take advantage of the new 'Turn Groove Into A Style' functionality when working with custom grooves

... ok and the unrelated question now

- can I have some control on the cymbals used at the end of fills (e.g. random cymbal, crash 1 only etc. ?)

Thanx in advance Cool

No, not at this time. This will likely be added in a future update.

Not with JS2 but you can do that with the host.

Make sure automatic locking is enabled in the bar editor menu so all your manually placed notes are automatically locked when created.

We'll check that out.

You mean an option to add the bar as a 'groove importer' versus changing the style?

No, JS2 will use either crash 1 (left side) or crash 2 (right side) depending on where the right hand is at the end of the fill. Example: if there is not enough time left to get from Tom 5 at the end of the fill to Crash 1 then Crash 2 is used.

Thanx for all the answers and probable implementation of some of my feature requests Ralph.

Re looping in host: yeah, I know but my host is kinda ... ermmm sensitive with the first note of a loop Laughing

Re 'Turn Groove Into A Style' functionality : I am not sure what I was asking there. I thought it could speed up my workflow somehow but I'm not sure how

cheers

as far as i can tell, if you use 'lock manually created events' in the dial a metal style, write a kick part, then hit compose button, it will recompose the kick as well.

having a lock kick or lock snare for entire bar, part, or song would be awesome.

it sure is easy to talk about and ask for - as i am not a coder! haha

Make sure you are using Jamstix 2.1.4 and that your manually placed notes really have the yellow vertical line on the left in the bar editor, which indicates they are locked. These events should NOT be removed if you hit the COMP button.

Don't worry Ralph. It's not a JS issue. It's the known "first note" midi bug of Tracktion. Doesn't happen when using preview in JS. Only when looping in host.

OK I read the manual more carefully and now I feel more confident with JS2.

- Forget my question about 'Turn Groove Into A Style' functionality

- When I was asking about locking kick and/or snare from an imported midi file or groove I had in mind two things a) keeping my hits where they are (easy) and b) not letting JS add new kick/snare hits
At the moment I'm using the bias sliders to eliminate any added hits in kick/snare but I was wondering if there is a way to tell JS:
"Look, I imported a kick/snare pattern. Keep it as it is and don't mess with it. Do your thing with hats/toms/cymbals/fills/accents but don't mess with my kick/snare groove. I want these exact hits and only these!" Laughing

Hope is clear now.

The best way to do that 'stern talk' with JS2 is to click on the names of the kick and snare elements you want to mute in the brain and choose 'Disable'.
