i got the axiom 25 to use the pads with JS2. i want to create grooves by putting JS in a loop mode and then play in the drum parts using the axiom pads.
i was sure that JS could do this but now that i'm actually trying to do it i cant find anything in the manual explaining it. i could swear i read this somewhere awhile back.
or was i wrong to think JS could do this? |

politcat,
I don't believe that's possible directly and I'm not sure that would make too much sense since JS is based on a different, rules and AI based workflow.
You could try the following however:
Record your groove via MIDI into your host, save that result as mid and import that into JS. As long as you're using GM or EzDrummer mappings that should be no problem.
Please note that there is an option to quantize imported files, which may or may not be what you want, anyway it's good to know about its existence.
Merry Christmas,

We are working on a MIDI LEARN function for Jamstix 2 that will allow you to play in your grooves via pads or an e-kit. This will be made available in one of the next updates. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

I'm assuming that means for standard midi keyboards as well? That would be immensely fun! Being able to just tap out my bass and snare groove from my keyboard directly into the custom rock style, disable them in the groove section and let Jamstix do its magic on the rest...it'd make it 100% fun and much easier to get creative (much easier to tap out a bass/snare groove than to program it via mouse-clicks). I assume it'll automatically quantize/snap to grid?
Just when I thought this app couldn't get any better...!!!
Edit: Also cool would be if while playing the groove on the midi controller, the same bar kept looping, and entering new data on a new pass would erase the old data and replace with the new, so you could keep improvising until you think you've got a good take (as opposed to entering a groove and deleting it manually to start over). Just an idea. |
