Please help!!!!
I have no idea how to fix this problem. I just hope it's a simple problem to fix and not a serious one. Let me give you the background.
I downloaded the Jamstix $129.00 pack about a week ago. I did as I was instructed. I downloaded the 3 parts to my laptop computer 1 and then burnt the zip files to disc.
I am using IZ Arc zip file software 3.81. I have two Toshiba Dynabook Japanese computers as I am living in Japan and need to use Japanese language on them. My second JPN Laptop is only for music. It has 200 gigabytes and an external Iodata 320 giga hardrive. Tracktion 2 and the Tracktion 3 basic up grade pack has been installed. It works fine. I use a lot of English software on Japanese computers and basically have had no problems before in case anyone is going to say something about that.
But there is more! The headache continues:
After setting up Tracktion 3, I wanted to install Jamstix onto my music laptop. So I put the cd in, and pasted the 3 files to the desktop. Each of the 3 parts to XL show the following:
XL part 1 79,000 bytes plus
XL part 2 83,000 bytes plus
XL part 3 76,000 bytes plus etc, etc
I even did a test using IZ Arc's testing facility which came up "no problems"!
All the guts seem to be there but when I try to unzip each file, it SHOWS 0-100% being unzipped. However the all famous Windows error message appears which says, " Windows cannot open this file".
File: XL_pak_part1of3,rxp2
To open this file, windows needs to know what program created it, etc, etc!
This has not happened to me before. Therefore, I have absolutely no idea how to sort this out.
You know, it seems like we musicians spend so much time trying to sort out tech probs instead of making music!!!! But I suppose it's all a learning experience.
If someone could shed some light onto this problem for me, I would be very, very happy and grateful indeed.

Please unzip the files but do not launch the extracted RXP2 files. Your error message sounds as if you instructed Windows to launch them. Instead, open Jamstix 2, got to the kit window and use 'Install Pak' to load the RXP2 files.
Let me know if you still have trouble. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Hi Ralph
I am still having no luck with this. In fact, I have no idea what is going on. I am now starting to throw pots and pans at everyone!
Let me describe what I did。 I put in the cd with the 3 zipped files into my computer. I then double clicked or right clicked on the first zip file and it opens on the screen in an IZ Arc dialogue box with xl pak part 1 zip on the left hand side, and another little windows icon with xl pak part 1 of 3 etc, file type, modified, and size. on the right hand side.
If I then double click on the xl pak on the right hand side, it seems to be unzipping from 0-100% but the windows cannot open this file message appears right after it reaches 100%.
So as for opening Jamstix 2, I have never even seen that stage yet! I can't get passed all the bloody error messages. There is another error message that comes up which says something about going to the control panel, click on folder options, and opening a related program. Mind you the message was in Japanese. So I am not sure of the exact translation in English.
A for the install pak or a kit window I haven't seen that either. And as for launching anything I don't think I did that either.
I have unzipped files before. From memory, I have just clicked on the zip file and it opens. Or I have right clicked "unzip file" etc and it opens.
In IZ Arc pop up box there are 7 commands:
Extract to....
Extract here
E-mail xl pak part 1 of 3 etc
Convert archive (tried this nothing much happened)
Create self-extracting (EXE) file (bigger box opens with this command)
Open with IZ Arc
Test
I don't know what you can make of this Ralph. I just don't know what to do.

You must use 'Extract To' within IZ Arc. Do NOT double-click the RXP2 files since they are not executable or associated files. Use 'Extract To' instead to put them anywhere on your hard drive.
Now run jamstix2_setup.exe, which you should have downloaded from your download page and execute it. This will install the Jamstix 2 plugin. You can then open it in a host and use the 'Install Pak' button to install the RXP2 files on your hard drive. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Ok! I have sent 3 files to the C Programs folder.
In the C: programs folder I now have three microsoft windows icons with the curled top right corner sitting side by side that don't resemble anything like jamstix2_setup.exe.
The all just say underneath,
xl pak part 1
xl pak part 2
xl pak part 3 etc, etc, etc the
I do NOT HAVE ANYTHING that says jamstix2_setup.exe, on my computer. Or is there anything on my CD.
I did a search on both computers for jamstix2_setup.exe. But nothing came up.
I have come to the conclusion that I must have downloaded everything incorrectly. I only remember downloading the green files in the middle. I do not even remember jamstix2 setup exe on the download site at all.
So basically I cannot run jamstix2_setup.exe because I don't have it.
How could this be possible do you think?
I know you have a tough policy in only having one opportunity to download
the software which I understand. But I really need to look at that download page again to see where I f.........d up!
Over to you. |

We don't have a 'one-download' policy. Your downloads are active for 14 days so you still have until the 28th to download any missing files. Please revisit your download page and download the files in the 'Jamstix 2 ' panel with the links 'Download Jamstix 2' and 'Download Stock Kit'. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Thanks Ralph for your help so far. I went back to the download site and downloaded everything. To date, I have got jamstix installed completely. I now have to figure out how to use it!
