Ok, I'm just reorganizing things here in my plugin folder and I realized that the drumkits from JS1 are in two places. One is the original, and the other is where they were apparently imported into JS2.

So here is my question: Is there a way to have both JS1 and JS2 installed and both reading from one single directory? Is there any way to avoid having two locations for the JS1 kits? I guess the same would apply to grooves and such as well, but mostly the kits.

Does that make sense?

If JS1 is installed, JS2 will auto-detect and use those kit sounds so there is no need to that data in the JS2 'sounds' folder if it is also present in the JS1 'samples' folder.

I wouldn't worry about any other data files since they are all quite small.

Hmm, maybe I'm thinking of this wrong then. It's a bit confusing looking through all the folders. I have a samples folder in the JS1 directory that is around 1.52GB. Then I also have an "addons" folder that is around 536MB(maybe I put that there?). It just has .rxp files inside.

Then, inside the JS2 directory, I have a sounds folder that is about 422MB.

Is any of that able to be deleted? Or is it all needed? Are you saying that JS2 actually reads the samples from the same folder as JS1 for the JS1 kits? And then it reads the JS2 kit from it's own folder?

Sorry for the confusion. I just want to delete whatever isn't needed, after backing up of course.

Thanks!

Brent

Your config is just fine. There is no duplication. The JS1 folder has the JS1 sounds+all Paks and your JS2 folder has the JS2 stock kit.

You can delete the files in the 'addons' folder though, just keep backup copies if you need to re-install in the future.

Ok, thanks. I do have backups of everything. I actually keep a couple of backups on stuff like this.

Thanks for clearing it all up man!

Cheers!

How about functionality? If there's no reason in that regard to keep Jamstix 1, I would like to delete the .dll (haven't used it in any projects yet anyway), and keep its kits working with Jamstix 2. What exactly would I need to do in that case?

You'd copy the JS1 files to JS2 as follows:

'samples' ->'sounds'
'rhythms'->'grooves'
'accents'->'fills'

After that you can uninstall Jamstix 1.

I'm curious about this too. If I copy those files from JS1 to JS2, can I use the control panel "add and remove programs" to uninstall JS1? won't the missing files stop the uninstall process?

Willy.

Not sure if it will stop the process. You could copy the files mentioned instead of moving to make double-sure. In any case, there will likely be files left after the uninstall (Pak installs, log file etc.) so you need to delete the Jamstix 1 folder manually in the end no matter what.

Moving the Jamstix 1 samples into the 'sounds' folder of Jamstix 2, I'm being asked if I want to replace files with identical names. I notice that the sizes of certain old and new files are not exactly the same. What to do?

How come the 'grooves' and 'fills' folders in Jamstix 2 are empty?

Keep the newer files.

They are just repositories for your own groove or fill creations.
