|
|
I just got Jamstix 2.1.4 last weekend and am using it with FL Studio 7. I'm still very much a newbie with Jamstix but man ... what a great piece of software !!! It seems that everytime I try to load a new kit, however, Jamstix locks FL Studio up solid ... I have to kill it via the Windox XP task manager. Sometimes it works but I would say it locks up 90% of the time. Any help/advice would be most appreciated.
Thanks,
JimmyD |

Let's dig deeper on that. First, please repeat the crash and then, after you kill FL, send me the file rzdlog.txt from the Jamstix 2 folder. Secondly, what are the exact steps, meaning what buttons do you push and what is the last thing happening on the screen. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

|
|
Greetings All,
I am having a slightly different problem with FL Studio 7 (v. 7.0 Producer) and found this thread which seemed most relevant.
The transport does not seem to be working, so I cannot use Jam with MIDI. MIDI Drum Module seems to be OK. There are a bunch of UI errors popping up and in the log file. Other hosts work OK so far (SONAR 6 PE, 4 HS).
After starting, Jamstix2 v. 2.1.4 (opens with Pop/Rock Template), then Add One VST Jamstix2, adding four notes in piano roll, then playing one pattern, then one as a song (added to Playlist), I have:
--- Assuming it's OK to post log files?? --- If not, I'll delete it.
<snipped on 15 December 2007 to shorten>
<35.1> GUI Request
<35.1> CACHED GUI USED
<46.2> UI Error:Access violation at address 05F975
This last message appears to be incomplete. I have seen something similar for different project:
UI Error: Access violation at address 5C6759A in module "jamstix2.dll" Read of address 0000000C <--- this varies
Also address 5C67594 for this other project.
Regards,
Dave Clark

Dave, please uncheck 'Cache GUI' in the Options dialog and see if that helps. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Hi Ralph,
Thanks for your extraordinarily quick response (extraordinary compared to almost anyone else out there!).
Disabling the Cache GUI option still did not work. Portion of rzdlog_2.txt:

<snipped again on 15 December to shorten>
I just reloaded and double-checked to be absolutely sure...
Thanks again.
Regards,
Dave Clark
Edited: By the way, I'm relatively new to FL Studio, so it's possible that I've done something really dumb in FL Studio. But I can see the MIDI working, etc. and it does work as a Drum Module just fine. The Jamstix2 transport struggles to work (flashes, but does not move anywhere); FL Studio transport does work.

Let's use the exact same steps:
- open FL7, new project
- choose 'Channels'->'Add One'->'More'->'VST Plugins'->'jamstix2'
- choose 'Jam Session (Rock)' quickstart song
- press Play in FL7
Does JS2 play? Do its bar/beat counters advance in synch with FL?
If not, tell me your output driver in FL7 under 'Options'->'Audio'. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Hi Ralph,
I apologize for the delay on my end. I'm not used to seeing responses this quickly!
No, it does not play for either 'Pattern' or 'Song.' The counters do not advance. This is what I meant by the transport seems not to work. The widget for bar one in the lower left somewhat flashes somewhat.
The driver is: ASIO for EWX 24/96. (Terratec card)
I tried reversing most of the options on that page, one at a time, no effect.

Dave, this is quite odd especially given that Sonar 6PE works fine with JS2 on your machine. It must be something in the FL7 setup that is causing the issue. Can you check that your Sonar is using the same ASIO driver? Also, you are not using a DX wrapper like Directixer to run JS2 in FL7, correct? It must be the VST option. I have both here and both show up in my FL7 list and the DirectiXer-wrapped JS2 will not bar-advance in FL7 just as you describe. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Hi Ralph,
Not to divert your attention but I still have my issue with FL7. I'm Glad Dave appended to this thread because I'll try turning of the "Cache GUI" suggestion ... although the Jamstix trasport works fine for me ... |

Hi Ralph,
That's it!
I was under the (erroneous) impression that FL Studio 7 could not run VST's natively because of the way that the plugins are listed. There are all the DX's, then the DX/vst's, then the FL native ones, then way down below, the VST's. So I never got that far!
Thanks a lot. I'm sorry I also didn't know that Jamstix2 doesn't run well under DX adapters in FL Studio.
Regards,
Dave Clark
P.S. To Jimmy D --- I was hoping that our problems were from the same cause, so instead of starting a new thread, decided to post here. It's hard to know for sure if problems are related or not. Hopefully something good will come of that for you. I also hope you had the VST running, not the DX/vst like I did! I'll watch this thread so that if you or Ralph want me to try something here, I can do that. |

DaveClark: glad you're up and running now!
JimmyD: your issue is unfortunately something altogether different. At this time I am suspecting your dual monitor setup (even though others and our machines here have no issue with that). Would it be a hassle for you to switch to single monitor, reboot and see if JS runs fine in FL that way? That would be the quickest way to confirm and then we can try to find a fix for it. _________________ Ralph Zeuner

Hi Ralph
I will indeed try that. I can use Jamstix2 and have been working with it today ... creating some drum tracks for a jazz tune I wrote a while back. Man, this is a great piece of software !!! I can't imagine how you were able to come up with the set of "rules" that you did to enable such realism but you should be damn proud !! I have got to get this problem resolved so I can fly with this thing ...
Hats off to you, my friend ... |

Hi Ralph,
I tried using a single display ... it still locked FL Studio up ... but I was in the Style "load" dialog this time. I was able to laod several kits with no problem. After I kill FL Studio via Task Manager, the "FL.exe" process is still in my list of processes ... and I can't kill it through clicking on it and telling Windows to "end the process" ... so I end up re-booting. It seems like it's trying to interact with Windows "Explorer.exe" ... sometimes when re-booting ... Windows has to kill "Explorer first" ... wierd !!! |
